Henrys lake
#1
Has anyone been up lately? I did have a report from someone though I am questioning it slightly because of the amount of stockings that happened in Sept. They said their avg sized fish was 22" and caught more than 2 dozen apiece in 2 days with no fish under 18". That seems a bit fishy to me with over 1 million fish being planted in Sept.

[black]Last year I caught around 35 Trout and 15 chub in 4 days of 3 to 4 hours a day with no trout being under 18" so I can see that. Also like another lake up there in Idaho, they plant with Magnum Trout due to the Birds. Magnum being 18" planters.[/black]
[black]Shelly, Bruce and some other friends are heading up the last weekend of October and I am looking forward to some great reports.[/black]
[black]Told them to give Bertha (the 34" I caught) a hug if they find her[/black][laugh]

Yes; but per the stocking records no fish over 6" was stocked and the qty is over 1.2 million.

Well, then that is a different story. Maybe they caught some of those little guys and thought they were Rapala's LOL

Most of those stockers are in the 2-3" range and will not be caught on conventional gear. I fished for a few hours on Sat. I can say that I caught my smallest fish ever at Henry's and it was around 12". This is far from the norm. I would say that my Henry's lake fish over the years have averaged 19-20" with very few under 18". I only fish certain parts of the lake and I am sure that there are rookeries where smaller fish can be caught regularly. None of my friends boated any huge fish on Sat. but there were several over 18" caught.
Just as a side note I hope that we can all work on being courtious when we fish at times when the holes are congested. There were at least 20 boats packed into the hatchery. I left after having my hole crossed twice by a guy in a pontoon boat. The state boat ramp was worse. People were acting like idiots at the sight of the splashing fish near shore. It was litteral combat fishing.

Good Luck

Even though over 1 million fish were planted in Henrys Lake between 0 to 6 inches, the majority of those fish are under four inches and traditionally will not be caught until July of next season when they are about 8 inches in length.

The report that you heard about could be very accurate. It depends on where they were fishing and with what. If you fish where the majority of fish are brooks, they will average from 14 to 16 inches, cutts will average from 16 to 22 inches and hybrids will average over 20 inches during October.

Good luck to all of you during this fall. I am still fishing but being very quiet about reporting the success.

Henry's sucks no big fish everyone needs to stay away. Flygoddesses fish was a blow up from the dollar store. We should all go fish in Stawberry.

Bill...glad to see your still around and checking in every now and then even if your not sharing success stories. I do miss hearing your reports but I understand why you have to do what you do.

Bill and I discussed the lake tonight actually and I would concur with Bill's assessment of the lake. It's what we have been catching and been finding in my little travels to the lake.

I would also add there are some really nice fish being caught for those non-believers and they are over 25"s. [Wink]

I would also add that I wish I had a camera Friday and Saturday last week. I think I could have made a movie and sold tickets. Some of it was funny and some not so funny. At times it was combat fishing at it's finest.

Good luck to all

Just have to let me know when you all are coming up. We can plan ahead and maybe do a little fishin.

One of these days I want to come down and fish Strawberry just for fun. Just hard to get past Henrys.

I will be on the lake until it freezessss over. It had some ice in some spots this last weekend. I think we may have some ice fishermen on it before Nov. Not sure I really like that but thats just me.

Drop in anytime

I know that was BS's concern as many around here about the new regs for Henry's. Hard to put those hogs back throw the ice.

Its even harder to cast that hot chocolate fly into that 8 inch ice hole from 20 yards away! [Tongue] I think at that point I would just stick to the hot chocolate drink! [cool]

Sounds like I'll bring the hot chocolate and you bring the marshmellows unless of course you will get teased by your fellow fly flingers if you have marshmellows in your fly vest! [Tongue] In that case you bring the HC and I'll bring the marshmellows.

Maybe someone should tie up a fly pattern that looks like the naturally occuring worm and a marshmellow combo. [Wink]

[black]Don't you worry about the Marshmellows, I will hide them in the power bait bottle I found on the shore. That will fools those fellow FF.[laugh] Besides they all accuse me of using powerbait when it comes to fish on[cool][/black]

Hey Bigcat, we are trying SB again this Sunday.
