Jordanelle 10/21
#1
My dad and I, as advertised, went to Jordanelle on Saturday. Started by heading a little way up Rock Cliff an started trolling floating Rapalas. Fishing was fair, but we caught fish. Stopped a little way past the bouy line and tried drop shotting a 2" maniac curly tail (as prescribed by Tube Dude). I got one bite, but that was it--at least I am makine progress and will get this whole dropshotting thing figured out one day--at least I had a bite. Starting to wonder if there really are perch or bass in that lake (ha!). Anyway, trolled back out of rock cliff with floating Rapala and also a Rapala Tail Dancer, both seemed to work pretty well. Had a little more action along the west side in the forebay of the dam. Caught rainbows on Jakes Spin a Lures, floating Rapalas, Rap DT6, Glass Fat Raps, CD Raps, and Jointed Shad Raps. When the rainbows hit, they hit really hard. All told we boated and released 16 rainbows--most in the 12-14in range with about 3 that were in the 14 to 16 inch range (all very healthy looking and brightly colored). We lost about as many as we boated--I think using the bigger bass crankbaits could have been the reason as the hooks were probably a bit big for the rainbows--but they still liked hitting them. Water temperature was about 53 at the surface. We had the most success trolling floating raps sizes 7-11 in various patterns. Ambient temperature was about 34 when we launched at about 9:15, probably in the low 50s with quite a bit of wind after about 11:30. Not that I am complaining, but I really would like to catch something other than a rainbow. By the way, if any of you were in your tubes or toons down at the mouth of the Provo, how did you deal with the guy in the ski boat flying down there, going about 40 in the "slow" zone? If only I had an RPG. Anyway, hope someone had a 2oz hopkins shorty to chuck at him...[Wink]
