Huntington advice needed
#1
I have been invited to go fishing at huntington tomorrow 11-30 but would like to avoid the parts of the lake that were open this weekend. I plan on going slow and drilling a lot of holes but have never been there before. Did one side of the lake have more ice then the other? Hopefully the ice didn't sink and form slush like people said it did last year but I will find out tomorrow.[crazy] Any tips would be appreciated.

I think Kent and someone else had said where the open water was. I will try and find the post, but i think it was "huntington ice on fire".

The place to avoid is down by the dam near the center of the reservoir. All other areas (except the few places where the small streams enter) should be safe ice. It is highly likely that there will be substantial snow up there to deal with. With deep snow the easiest place to access the reservoir is from the parking lot by the dam. It is also highly likely that you will encounter deep slush on top of the ice. I would highly recommend that you wear snowshoes. They will help navigate the deep snow and also help keep you up out of the slush. They may also help you bridge any cracks in the ice caused by the heavy snow. One final thought, it will be bitter cold. Better plan on carrying some type of heater out on the ice.
