Safe ice question
#1
Your thoughts are welcomed. I checked out a lake this last sunday that is a marsh with channels runing thru it. The ice was 3-4" thick but was opaque (dirty white). took some effort with the spud to get thru where I checked. What do ya think? Safe or not?

the answer is always NO.

Ice is never safe. once you start thinking as ice being safe is when you are going to go though,

I kid you not. I have been on ice 20 inches thick on one spot and half inch of cover as little as a couple feed away.

take special care when walking on marshes. black bottom shallow lakes can be especialy can be hadzardous. they freeze over early but never throuly.

well, from the time I posted my last note, some boy went though the ice here in south east michigan, his leather coat took him down to the bottom of the lake.

fire department responded with in three minuts, but because of theather coat it took them thirty minuts to find the body.

so our firs ice mishap has been logged for the season. he was walking out and thought he had enough ice, he only had 2-3 inches, but todays worm sun realy made the ice a widow maker.
