Fished Chesterfield from sunrise to about 11am. Fishing was slow. For me the fish were as active at sunrise as they were close to 11am. Many of the fish would bite light and not bite a second time if I was too slow to set the hook. The air temperatures weren't much above 0 degrees but at least the wind wasn't blowing. It was too cold for me to want to stick my arm up to my elbow to measure the ice. I would guess it was around 12 or 14 inches thick. The edges were solid. When I left I counted 65 vehicles parked at Chesterfield. For how slow the fishing was, I'm surprise there were so many people at Chesterfield today. There was a constant sound of power augers all morning.
Here are a few pictures of the crowds.
Here are some pictures of fish I caught. They were all fat, healthy, strong and released to fight another day.
I had a good time but I don't plan on Chesterfield again this winter. The wait between bites was often a half hour and it was a little more crowded that I prefer.
