My little girl got some ice fishing stuff for Christmas, and she has been begging me to get out. I got off a little early yesterday so we headed up to Lost Creek. I let her pick the lure and bait, and no sooner had we put it down the hole, bammo, fish on! Nice little bow. I had hoped that we would really smack them around, but that is the only fish we iced. I missed a couple of bites, but other than that, it was very slow. We talked to a couple other guys that didn't get anything, so I guess we did pretty well. Nice to get out with the little one though.
The ice was 6 " of very slippery clear stuff. Take cleats if you go. There is also still open water in the middle of the lake, which was a little surprising to me.

Nice report, too bad the catching wasn't better. It sure seems strange because Lost creek is usually the hot ticket when the ice is new. I wonder if they forgot to stock the lake last fall. [unsure]

[cool]That's a great pic! How old is your daughter? Reason I'm asking is because my daughter is 2 1/2 but I took her to Mantua last summer and she enjoyed herself helping her old man real in the bluegills, so I may take her out on the ice this year, but she may still be too young to really be tough enough to enjoy it. I guess it depends on if I get a shelter or not, otherwise I may take her out to Rockport on a nice 45 degree day in early March without a shelter...

Nice report even if the fish didn't want to play. Always nice when the kids do well with what they picked. Thats one proud little girl and she should be. Nice fish.

She's 6 now, but has been out ice fishing for a couple of years. I think the key is let them have a good time by picking their own stuff, and then let them play around with the poles, or just play on the ice. Don't plan on staying long, so you won't get upset when they get bored after only an hour or so. Catching fish is also a bonus for them.
