First fish on home made lure

Just had to post a note that I went out yesterday on a river south of town and hooked a nice fish (the one that got away, of course), and brought home a small 1# rainbow, both having hit one of the lures I made. I fished exslusively with lures I made, so it was a cool experience.

I learned to make lures entirely due to this board, with help from TD et al. I noticed that many of the spinners I made actually had a better action than those I have purchased in the past. I am certain this is due to using a lighter gauge wire, as suggested by Tube Dude.

Anyway, it was awesome to break the ice with my first catches. There is no way I could ever consider ever paying for factory made lures or jigs. And it is all because I stumbled on to this website. How cool is that?!?! []

Congratulations on reeping the spoils from the fruits of your own labor. That is one part of fishing that many people know little or nothing about.

Making a lure to work in your area is awesome and I'm sure that you are stoked with the results.

All I can say is keep up the good work and as you go along you will learn other modifications that can be made with your own lures to entice the fish to bite even better when they are in the mood.[cool]

Caught my first steelhead on a spinner that was home made. I think that the reason I caught him was that the SH was looking to clean up all the garbage it found in his area. LOL[/size][/green][/font]

Way to go! Catching fish on lures that you make is always rewarding as I do it all the time!
Check out my new ice cut'r they are awsome on trout and panfish through the ice or open water! Keep up the good work on your lures. Just a few pics!

Have you ever rigged any of your plastics on a spinner, or do you usually drop shot them?

I have used my drop shot and paddle tail worms on a spinner harness to catch Walleye's and Hybrid Wipers, but haven't used spinners much these days. It may be worth trying though. One of my customers puts one of our curl tail grubs on the back of his crank baits with good success.

maniacs cut'r is worth checking out. ive been slaying them through the ice with them! best color has been crazy glow for me, on a 1/16 oz glow round jighead.

Nice! I especially like the fluorescent cork body spinner! Thanks for the pics--I've been curious to see what other people are making (I've just seen samples of Tube Dude's arsenal, and that's a bit awe-inspiring).
