Hunter Education Course In Salmon In February
#1
Is your child planning on hunting this fall?
There are still some spaces available for the February Hunter Education course in Salmon. The Idaho Department of Fish and Game also is taking sign-ups for March and April classes.
Anyone born after January 1, 1975, must complete a hunter education course to buy an Idaho hunting license or show proof that they previously held a valid hunting license in Idaho or another state. All students must be at least 10 years old by the next general hunting season.
Jim Toynbee, who has been a volunteer hunter education instructor for many years, encourages new hunters to take the course this spring.
"Waiting until just before hunting season can cause problems," Toynbee said. "Instructors leave for their own hunting trips, and there are often conflicts with school sports in the fall."
Students should be prepared to attend the entire course, which includes 15 to 17 class hours plus a two- to four-hour range and live-fire exercise. The February class will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on February 2, 5, 7, 9, 12, 14, and 16 at the Salmon Region Fish and Game office at 99 Highway 93 North. The rifle range exercise will be on Saturday, February 17.
The curriculum includes firearms safety, basic archery safety, hunting ethics, wildlife management, conservation, survival and regulations. To sign up for this course or to find out about future hunter education courses, please call Fish and Game at 756-2271.
