I just about died laughing when I saw this -- then I realized this is a serious invention!

Okay, weird yes, but I gotta admit, I wish I'd had this thing when learning to scale and fillet for the first time.
Still have the scar on my pinky! [ ]

That's a great idea. Only thing, it would never sell in Hawaii. Over here they eat the whole fish... head, eye balls, every thing.....No fillet of fish here.
Aloha,

LOL, I agree Volina, I don't think I could eat a fish that was still intact. That would be kinda nerve racking. I guess i'll never order fish in Hawaii. [ ]

[black][size 3]I guess I don't have much of a problem with eating a fish that is still basically intact. As a matter of fact, I never cut the head off trout. Here is how I almost always prepare Trout. (This is a photo of a typical camping trip trout dinner).[/size][/black]
[inline CookingCutts-R.jpg]
[black][size 3]I just gut the fish and put it in foil with a couple of slices of bacon and then throw the package in the fire for the appropriate amount of time. Then take them out of the fire and serve them up with other tasty goodies - like spuds, rice, veggies and a good after fishing beverage, topped off with a nice stare at the sunset and a concert of the sounds of nature accompanied by a crackling camp fire - Yummy ![/size][/black]

[size 3]BTW - Welcome to BFT Violina ![/size]

Actually, that doesn't look too bad fishhound. What's the deal with the bacon? Is that recipe only good on trout?

I dunno, I saw a video of a guy who fileted quicker and more efficiently with an electric knife without the fish holder. And I've heard that Tube Dude is equally or more adept with only a sharpened filet knife. Not that much into gadgets, especially if they are going to end up smelling like bait [ ]
But thanks for the video!

I don't know, I think "Fish Gripper" at least explains more what it actually is! [sly]

LOL, tubedude needs picked on from time to time. I'm sure he appreciates the attention.
Personally, i've never been "tubeing" before. I hear it's alot of fun fishing like that. Tuben2 is suppose to take me "tubeing" someday, if I can ever make it Cali. LOL, that's a long drive, maybe he'll just mail the tube to me to try out. [ ]

The only tubing I can recall doing is skimming along the lake on an innertube, being dragged by a boat. It was alright, until the big knock-off when your mouth opens to scream and water comes rushing in.[sly]
Amazed more people don't die from tubing, or water-skiing or whatever kind of dragging sport. [crazy] I mean, I'm a great swimmer, sync-team in highschool, dive team in college, but mankind (and womankind) was never meant to be dragged by a boat. You ride IN a boat. [sly]

LOL, well, I like "tubing" behind the boat. I boat a Big Bertha high speed tube when I purchased my 21 footer. It's pretty darn fun.
Pretty nifty looking. I just can't get by the whole "having your feet in the water" thing. There are plenty of nasties in the water that would love to nibble on loose extremeties. [cool]

[cool][font "Poor Richard"][green][size 3]Hey Stan I could never get use to seeing the whole fish on a platter. Before I retired Hawaii was part of my operation. Most of my personnel there were Japanese American as were our customers. I would let my local guy make the decision as to where we would be taking our customer(s) for lunch. He was real cool. He would order for everyone. He always made sure that my plate would not include fish but some sort of beef. The only fish I like are salmon & trout. Don't think they had that on the menu. Aloha.[/size][/green][/font]

[black][size 3]Hey Tarpon4me,[/size][/black]
[black][size 3][/size][/black]
[black][size 3]That is the exact float tube I have - except the color(mine is battleship grey).[/size][/black]
[black][size 3][/size][/black]
[black][size 3]BTW - could you edit your post and shrink down that picture a bit - it probably would play havoc with the folks that have dial up connections.[/size][/black]

Tubing is a lot of fun. You should try it some time.
We do realize that there are some strange names on this forum. I won't mention any names at this moment.[cool]

Hey there KC. Welcome to BigFishTackle. There is another way and that is to have a very sharp knife.
When needed, I am a deckhand on a Sportfishing boat. If we were to fillet as slow as that guy with the electric knife, we would be out of a job.
With 2 of us at the fillet board, we can go through 400 to 500 fish in just an hour and a half. On a good day we can do that amount in just about an hour.[cool]

Well I am old school.
not to the point where we scale the fish, gully them, cut thier heads off and call it good. Not quite that old, but still remember those days...
keeping a honing stone or steal biside you at your bench will keep your blade sharp. with a sharp blade fish cut like butter...
I am of the affermed conviction that if I have to cut a turky with an electric hacksaw I aint eatin it... same goes with my fish, if it is that tough I aint going to be able to chew it.... LOL
I am not as fast as tubin2, but my granny was. the family would go out and catch them and bring them back by the five gallon pail full and in a couple hours they would start floppin in to the platter next to our ice cold beers on the table... and she used a stone to sharpen her knife.
and to save your back, get a taller table to work on, grab a couple blocks and lift your bench or buy a table. I paid a hundred bucks for a stainless steel table just the right hight... or if the honey dosnt mind, the kitchen counter is pretty close to the right hight unless you are 6-5...
I am not knocking the electric knife, it is just I dont beleive electricity and wet stuff go together.... Your just askin for trouble...
and to be honest, on all the charters in the great lakes, it is a honing steel and fillett knife. and like tubin2 said, you had better be good or you wont make it back out on the next charter...

[#588000][size 3]I think this one was missed, but I use Bacon cause of the flavor plus the grease to keep it moist. Some people will use butter, but bacon has such a good flavor and does the same thing.[/size][/#588000]
[#588000][size 3]If I get lucky enough to keep a fish (an old man thing) I prefer very fresh, gut it, stick raw bacon, some garlic seasoning and a wedge of lemon. Wrap it up in foil and throw it on an open fire or a BBQ. The best! Specially with the NON STICK FOIL[laugh][/size][/#588000]
