Funny how you are targeting a fish thats against the law to keep! And don't give us the bull about trying to catch trout. 90% of all trout caught are above the 1ft target zone for perch. If you caught 5 or 6 perch I could understand it, but 40+ perch.......... Your pushin it. "Oh but Mr. OCIFER, I let them all go unhurt" FOOLS

[cool][#0000ff]Then by your logic we should not fish Strawberry any more...since a high percentage of the fish we catch are not legal to keep.[/#0000ff]

Funny how you mention "the officer". A game warden was on the ice that day, checked my license, and said nothing about the fact that you can't practice catch-and-release. Last I checked, the proclamation also allows C&R at Yuba... Are you a PETA member by any chance?

Since you asked about fishing yuba and everyone got off topic here is my 2 cents for fishing yuba. I never fished yuba through the ice so all the advice i can offer is what works for me in the warm water. White and chartreuse jigs have worked good for some of those big bows i have caught in the past also red and white colors will work great too and you can catch an occasional pike there too. And the pike are averaging 20 plus inches and great fighting too. I would try to use 2-3 inch jigs so you can at least keep some of the smaller perch away. But that is gonna be a job onto itself.Move around start of shallow and work your way deep the bows are scattered everywhere so its gonna be hard to figure out what depth they will be cruising. Also i have caught perch anywhere from 10 feet to 50 feet and suspended .I stay away from minnows and worms because the perch take them in deep and you end up killing them that is why i use only jigs it helps with their mortality. Hope this helps and let us know how they did.

I would vote Painted rock side also. We fished by the dam and several other areas on the west side with not much luck Saturday. The only other group we saw on the west side kept moving so I don't think they found the fish either.
After speaking with a DWR officer we drove over to Painted rock and had a lot of fun. My boy caught a real nice one and then had fun climbing the island. When the perch wanted to bite didn't seem to matter what we used although green and yellow seemed to work a little better. We fished in about 28 feet of water. Don't forget to look up once in awhile as we saw a Bald and two Golden Eagles while driving around the lake.
As for mister officer he was very pleasant and helpfull. I had my BFT shirt on and we talked about the site as he reads it. He offered some tips and sent us on our way. No excuses needed when your not breaking any laws.

[cool][#0000ff]You can also drive on paved road almost all the way to Painted Rocks by coming in the back way...on the road from Nephi to Gunnison. A few miles past Levan there is a sign on the right, indicating Painted Rocks. It is only a 1/4 mile or so from the highway. If you are coming from Utah County or Salt Lake that is the fastest and easiest access to Painted Rocks.[/#0000ff]

leve the 4 wheelers home! that is inless you what to drag them alog just for the fun of it.. off road wheerers are not aloud at yuba.. you'll get a tickit..
here's the spot you want to go for the perch and rainbows..
go to painted rock walk out right betwine the islands. go the the north west side of the big island find 30 to 35 feet of water and you will be on the fish.. use minnow parts to tip your jig's and you'll catch all the fish you could want..
