I am wanting to go to Lake Powell either the end of April or beginning of May to hit the smally spawn. I fished it two years ago when we stayed at the south part of the lake (Wahweap). I am thinking about going to Bullfrog this time because we have access to a house boat there. My question is this....Does the smally spawn happen about the same time in the middle part of the lake (Bullfrog/Halls crossing) as it does in the south part of the lake (Wahweap)? I know the spawn is temperature dependant. So asking the question another way.... Does the water in the south part of the lake warm faster since it is farther away from the cold water Inlet source? And if so how far delayed is the smally spawn at mid lake than south lake? I will also post this question on Wayneswords.com as well. Thanks for your help!

I will be down there at the end of April also (22nd to the 26th). We have a houseboat out of Bullfrog too. I know that REELFAST is going also, he is going the 17th to the 23rd and I am suppose to get with him and see how he did, before I hit the water. All I know is that the fishing is awesome all over that lake that time of year and no matter what it will be a good time. Maybe I will see you down there, any info you come across please fill me in, I have asked questions for my trip too and everyone has been helpful.

[cool][#0000ff]My experience has been than there is still not the huge volume of cold snowmelt runoff in April that there is a month or so later. There will not be as much difference in MAIN LAKE condidtions between Wahweap and Bullfrog as there will be at Hite.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]If you go back up into the canyons you will find many coves and south facing shallow shorelines that are much warmer than the open waters of the main lake. That's where the bass will be spawning earliest. Follow your sonar and temperature guage.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]As the time of your trip gets nearer, there will be plenty of reports to help guide you to the right areas Dedicated Powellites should start flocking down there soon.[/#0000ff]

I am working on connecting locations to fishing from the past archive in that time bracket. It seems like the lake is large enough that the spawn is spread out some. North shore vs south shore. Im afraid 4 full days wont be enough. I want to stock up on stripers, eat a striper save a bass. May actually have to take a small freezer. Wish they offered cold storage. I will get togeather with some info if you like down there. Reelfast

REELFAST,
Once the time gets closer we will have to set up a time or what not on where we can meet up. We are leaving to go down early morning of the 22nd so we can "pre-board" the houseboat that day, but we dont get to leave with it until the morning, should make for an awesome trip. Hopefully we all do well.

We have to leave out the 23 so maybe we can get togeather and make a run on my boat to some spots. I have a lowrance gps with the chip i can take out. may be able to drop it in another lowrance and transfer some of the information. I haven't tried that but I think it can be done. I will pm my phone and email. But i have to run get ready. Making an early run to Bear in the morning. Reelfast

The bass spawn dose not only go by temp, The temp dose have a part but how long the days are have just as much as temp and then you have moon faze too....
When they talk about temp you want to look at main lake temps not in the backs of canyons....
The spawn should start 5 days before a full moon and will slow down 5 days after and will start back 5 days before a new moon to 5 days after when the main lake temps reach 58 to 62, this temp should be taken in the morning...
You can look for the start to happen with the first full or new moon after the 15 of April at Powell or other lakes in the lower 1/3 of this state.....
In the upper 1/2 of the state the spawn will start on or after the first week of June with moon faze.....
