Saw a guy this weekend on C J Strike Res. here in I daho with a merc motor on his toon. Boy could he get along. Not sure the toon brand but it was a 9'er. I would have to go with a 10'er with my size.
I fished without a camera, again[mad], but caught one nice perch on a curly tail, and a smally who took my lure right out of my lap on one of TD goto jigs (forgot it's name) and another smally on a black grub.
Nearly ran out of battery on my toon but only 100 yds out and kicked the rest of the way in. It was just a awsome Sunday after a difficult week.

Congrats on the fish. And DAMN a 10hp. was he pulling a skier as well. that is a lot of power for such a light craft. I think that is around the size of the motor Dave Scanden used in one of his Videos as well. While I do not have a toon or a motor I think I would prefer staying with an electric. Nice and stealthy.

[black][size 3]WOW! I didn't know Mercury made a 10, I see 9's.[/size][/black]
[black][size 3]Okay awhile back, I had the same idea. Gas versus Battery, specially on multi days of fishing.[/size][/black]
[black][size 3]I bought a couple of Merc's around the 3hrsp. Great idea on paper.[/size][/black]
[black][size 3]First off, there is NO neutral, which means it is either moving or off.[/size][/black]
[black][size 3]Trying to PULL start one while on the water is scary to say the least.[/size][/black]
[black][size 3]Once you do get it started, you have to spin it around real quick, cause you can't reverse the head like an electric.[/size][/black]
[black][size 3]Then even on the lowest/slowest speed, you are still cruising too fast to even troll.[/size][/black]
[black][size 3]Saw a couple of guys at Jordanell, with there new Versa Vestile, and they had 5hrsp. They flew (on lowest seting) They hated it but it got them to point B in a hurry, but from there it was rowing and kicking all the way.[/size][/black]

[size 3]Not to mention, getting hi on Gas Fumes[crazy][laugh][/size]

I agree about 10HP. 5HP is too much for a 'toon. 3 is too much. Electric motor's are the only way to go. My reasoning- instant on and go. Instant off and stop. If you stop a gas motor, you usually have to pull the safety cord/kill switch cord out. If you're not exactly where you want to be- start all over put it back in, crawl up on the seat pull the cord, once, twice then hold on. With electric-finger control to start. You know when your battery is getting weak. When you run out of gas- you're out of gas. Biggest plus for an electric- NO NOISE or pollution. I've tried both, and a gas motor is great.
\For regular boats. Not kickboats.

I am still surprised with the rising fuel costs. Not so much for the cost of the fuel going up as that the beer they transport, in the higher priced fuel trucks, still goes on special.
They run more beer specials around here than they do fuel discounts.[shocked]
