Snake River 3/13/07
#1
I fished the South Fork a couple days ago. It was a very windy day. Caught fish on spinners and jigs. I tipped my jigs with a piece of nightcrawler every now and then. It didn't seem to make much of a difference if my jig had a nightcrawler on it or not. I'm sure rapalas and many other lures would have worked as well. We let all of the browns and cutthroats go and brought home the rainbows.
Here are a few pictures from the trip.

Nice fish Brian, great pics !! I fished the south fork near the bridge in Swan Valley this afternoon. I caught a few small ones on rapalas. Everytime I fish in this area, I leave the river carrying out others peoples trash. If you are going to fish from shore here, TAKE YOUR CRAP HOME WITH YOU. I find beer cans, jerky wrappers and lots of worm containers. This is supposed to be one of the premier trout waters in the west, and every spring it looks like a dump. I just dont understand..JL

Please don't blame it all on the bait fishermen--most of us are very good at packing out what we take in...and maybe someone else's trash too. I've run into the same thing while hunting--water bottles, tWinkie wrappers, etc. There are always a few that ruin it for the rest.

BTW, Brian--great fish you had there. Is the water muddy looking yet?

Nice fish. What section of the river did you fish and how was the water clarity and flow? I was thinking about heading up there sometime this weekend to wade the channels by fall creek. Just wondering if it'd be worth the trip. Thanks

For the most part the water was clear. There were a few spots where run off creeks dumbed into the river and would create some muddy water along that shoreline for a short distance. A few hundred yards downstream the water was clear again. Here's a picture of waterfall from one of the many run off creeks.

I was fishing down lower on the river closer to Heise but I think any part of the South Fork would be good right now.
The flows on the South Fork are controlled by PaliSades Dam. Here's a link to a couple websites you should find helpful.

I doubt the South Fork will get muddy like it did last year because we don't have the snow pack we did last winter.
