Fished Carey lake last night, didn't get there till 7 pm. Started with jigs that had blades and tipped with worm, couldn't keep the small bass off. They felt like whales on my UL rod, not sure what I would have done if they would have been keepers. Finally went to the fly rod and worked the edges with a bead head and the bluegill made me very happy. Hooke only on perch and she was maybe 4" the lure was almost bigger than her.
Learned a little something about the toon. The caps for the air fillup should be on before you go out fishing otherwise you will start to lose air. I was sagging on one side but made it fishin till the sun was down, hahaha. The things we do when we are in a hurry and can't wait for the fun.

That sounds good Mike. I might have to make a sojourn over that way. Any report on how Clear Lake has been fishing? I've gotta get out of this chair pretty soon, or I'll be too fat to float, and I'll have to take up cutting out paper dolls.[unsure]

We had an excellent time this Sat. afternoon, even in the wind, going after the bluegill. Water temp was around 51. We caught a few small perch and bass, no keeper bass. We used 4/5 w flyrods, floating line with a 7' leader and any nymph beaded or plain.
Great day with the whooping cranes flying around as well as the geese and quackers. I took pic's but my home comp is sick for the moment. I will update when it feels better.
God bless

Any keeper size bluegill in Carey? I've caught a few small ones on little jigs in the fall, but I suspect that's not the way to do it. I'm pretty new to warmwater fishing. Are you fishing shallows or in the holes?

Yes we did catch quite a few just over the size of my hand, we were using nymph flies on the fly rod fishing the edges out to the middle. We had better luck on the edges than in the holes, this time.
Here some pic's

Went to Carey again on Saturday. I t was just an absolutely beautiful day! Had a new friend with me, just got him into a float tube an d teaching him some fly roddin. We had a blast with the bluegill again. Still no perch of any size and many small small mouths. Fished again with home tied bead head prince nymphs and pheasant tails. Did use a dry fly from about 1-3 casting into the weeds and along the edges. Got a good burn on my arm. Had jus t a great day!

Back to Carey with another bluegill fishin buddy, Scott. We had a great day Saturday and boy was it warm. Praise God for sun block!
Thought I would share a few picture with ya. We caught small perch and some nearly legal bass, I had 1 11 7/8" they need to be 12" here in Idaho.
We both were using LW fly rods and fishing with different nymph patterns. Anything with color seemed to excite the bass the most.

The boat would be fine the motor No, it's an electric only reservoir. The bass are small as well as the perch, on the most part, but there would be good action. Carey is East of Shoshone on the way to Arco (not sure of the HWY #). Not sure where you would be coming from.

There is some good bank fishing now, before the weeds get grown up, but there isn't any camping area, however I have seen a couple use the parking lot for camping.

Good spot to take your 5 year old, but no shade and no camping. You could go up to Little Wood Resevoir and camp there, not to far away and you could fish from the bank. I think they might even have some shade also.
