Seriously thinking of adding a rear deck to my 'toon, getting a trolling motor, putting a swiveling seat on it, and I'd like to get a casting platform.
It's an ODC sport, which is now the 'classic' model.
I don't think there is a factory casting platform available....I was thinking of modifing one for another model....thoughts?
Weight isn't an issue, I'm 160lbs soaking wet.....

[black]JamisJockey, there is another post going on about this also.[/black]
[black]I will start off saying, it seems the new wave of Pontoons.[/black]
[black]I do know Scadden is making just about all his pontoons with the standing platform down to a size 9'.[/black]
[black]I do believe you will want to extend the width of your frame (make it wider) plus you will have to find a balance point while sitting and then standing. I don't think it is wise to try this on anything shorter than a 9'.[/black]
[black]On the motor, just try to get the battery as close to the back of the seat as possible.[/black]
[black]A standing platform could be built by getting some Diamond Plate aluminum and attaching some hooks made out of solid tubing and attach them to you foot pegs. It will have to have a drop to it like maybe 10" and then you have to figure out where it will go when you want to kick.[/black]
[black]Plus you need a bar to lean against. That I think is a must.[/black]
[black]On the Scadden Boats, I know you would not want to put a swivel seat on. Reason is, the bar folds back, so if you want to sit down, you can't use the bar to brace you, you have to use the back of the seat and if the seat moves, you could be in trouble.[/black]
[black]Good luck with your project and keep us up on how it is going.[/black]

I think I'm going to bag the platform, but I might fashion a custom foot rest....I'm thinking about going with the raised seat and the trolling motor. I've got stubby little legs, so the factory foot rests are a stretch for me.
How did you fashion your flat platform on your pontoon?

[black]The whole top of mine is a platform which was easy cause my frame is flat.[/black]

[black][/black]
[black][/black]
[black]I also have a cloth fold down seat that would make the whole 4' X4' deck usable. Plus the 11 1/2' pontoons and the 5' width.[/black]
[black]I have not used it because the waters I fish are filled with algey and sight fishing isn't gonna happen, so I load up the deck with other gear and my dog. Even with this I would have to limit my movement although it is stable, it will flip.[/black]
[black]I will try to get a picture with me standing on it on the water.[/black]
[black]I understand the raised seat idea, but just be sure you can steer with your flippers. Pontoons don't steer that well with just the motor because of the lack of a keel on your pontoons.[/black]
[black]Plus motors will stop at the most inconvenient moment, so you want to keep the oars and the rowing thing availabe, not to mention flippers and kicking.[/black]
[black]I have been on waters where a storm has moved in and the motor was not going to get me into shore by itself.[/black]

I am trying to point out things that I have either experienced myself or seen to save you people the trouble and possibly your life.

[#808080]The only problem with having a pedestal seat is you won't be able to use fins. If you don't mind not using them, go for it. I'd feel naked without them myself.[/#808080]
