I am headed out to camp and fish the second week of May. We were thinking of going to Idaho, but I am a little worried we could run into snow. Maybe we will be ok. But I am trying to think of a good place to camp and fish (river and/or lake) that is within 3 hours or so of SLC. We have been thinking about the green river, but not sure yet. Any other good ideas out there for May? Or should we head South? We really want to get into the mountains and away from people. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Mountains + May = Sn. . . (oops, no profanity). Go south, stay low. You might only get cold rain on the Green. But then again, . . . I've NEVER seen a May at the Gorge without snow at some point, often several times.

Yea starvation has some cool camping even if you are not in the main campground.

Or continue on for another 1/2 hour to Pelican Lake. Free camping (bring your own everything) pit toilet is available.
Lots of huge bluegills for the kids to catch.

I would suggest joes valley, While it's not a low elevation lake, it is'nt a real high elevation either. And the springtime weather can is generally very mild. This is the ideal time to try for the large splake in the lake (5-15lbs are common) And if the lake is slow the river below the dam is always good for some average browns. The area is also great for scenery, with a nice campground near the marina. Good luck Lonnie

I second that! Joes Valley is awesome for (in my experience) fast splake and cutt fishing. [cool]
