More Mercury Warnings
#1
I ran across this on the DWR website today.

Will the mercury ever go away? Is it a permanent problem in these waters? It is in certain ducks as well. I am almost thinking I do not want to eat any fish from any Utah water.

First off, it is good to see that these studies are being completed. This gives us the ability to make informed decisions on our fish consumption. We had some preliminary results on these waters a few months ago, but now we know. They actually aren't as bad as the preliminary report suggested. For instance, Jordanelle perch do not at this time have an advisory, and they appeared in the preliminary results as close to the action level. We haven't seen the end of this issue either. There will be more waters studied, and more advisories given.

One sentence worth noting, (from the DWR news release) "Any health risks associated with eating fish from the affected areas are based on long-term consumption and are not tied to eating fish occasionally."
We don't need to get unduly worried about an occasional fish dinner from one of these waters eaten in the past, as long as it hasn't been constant. (see the specific advisory guidelines for the waters in question)
