Milner
#1
How has Milner and Massicer Rocks been fishing? We went to Powell a couple weeks ago and killed! the stripers. But the bass was slow. Need a good Smallie fix. The good news is with 40+ pounds of striper in the freezer we will be catch and release fishing for a long while.

Those are some nice looking fish ya have there. Are they as good eating as bass?

Well, I haven't fished Milner, and would love some information regarding where to go.

On Saturday the 28th my boy and I went with a couple friends in their boat to Massacre rocks. The main river is still under 50 degrees (48-49). Some of the shallower areas were 51-53 degrees. Water color was off. I believe they have been letting more water out of AF dam lately and that hasn't helped the temp or the clarity. My friend landed one 16" smalley and that was it. We usually can see the bass in the shallows but its either too cold or too off color to see them.

My friend is the C.O. in the area and he was out checking boats that day. He said one boat farther down river had picked up 4 and a few folks at Gifford Springs were picking up some small fish.

We need a few more days of warm temps and some consistency in the weather.

Thanks for the report IDHunters.
Here's a couple links you might find useful if you want to check the water level before you go fishing.

Stripped bass that I've caught at Lake Powell may be the best fish that I have eaten. I think stripped bass are much better eating than SMB or LMB. Over the last 15 years I've spent close to 50 days fishing Lake Powell. If you haven't been there, I would highly recomend it.

I talked to a guy who fished a tournement at Milner recently. Sounds like they did ok on numbers but there weren't any large fish caught.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like it is just a bit cold yet. Lake Powell is something to experience. The stripers are excellent eating and need to be harvested. We took a 2 cu ft freezer and filled it. No cold storage there. We actually spent most of our time in pursuit of bass. We could catch over a dozen stripers and hour when we got into them. They are a lot of fun to catch. Dont worry about a house boat thing unless you really want to spend the money. Get a room in the lodge or camping it is way cheaper. But either way the lake needs lots of pressure on the stripers this year. The best source of information that I have found is at wayneswords.com The trip is worth it. Dan

Consistency in the weather? Eastern Idaho? Not until July when it's consistently HOT.

The weather is consistant in East Idaho.....consistantly inconsistant! Today the hi temps are going to be over 20 degrees cooler than yesterday!

Kinda like the wind-it ain't windy until the trees are at a 45 degree angle. Everything else is just a breeze.
