Creel survey to be conducted on Otter Tail Lake in Otter Tail County
#1
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in Fergus Falls will be conducting an open water creel survey on Otter Tail Lake from May 12 until Oct. 14.

During this time, anglers fishing Otter Tail Lake will likely be approached by a DNR creel clerk. Anglers will be asked to participate in the survey by answering some questions about their fishing and allowing the creel clerk to measure some of the fish they caught.

The interview process will take a few minutes. The information provided will help DNR Fisheries with future fish management on Otter Tail Lake.

Creel surveys are conducted every 10-12 years on Otter Tail to gather information on overall angling pressure, angler harvest and release and catch rates of various fish species. These estimates can then be compared to previous creel surveys to document changes. Creel surveys were previously completed in 1983-84, 1994-95 and 2006 (first of a two-year creel survey).

For more information, contact Arlin Schalekamp or Jim Wolters, DNR Fisheries at (218) 739-7576.
