I made a last minute trip up to my property in Duchesne for the weekend with my two girls 6,3, to give the wife a break. I was surprised to see my 3 year old behave so well! She wasn't shy about showing her Barbie fishing pole to every passing boat. She caught the first fish and the ego went sky rocketing.
The weather was great and the typical Starvation wind was non-existant. Fishing was great but the best fish was a carp believe it or not.[crazy]. 24 lbs. 32" long and fought for almost 20 minutes. My largest freshwater fish is a carp!
I love my girls and hope they become great fisherwomen, they're off to a great start. The carp was released unharmed, I thought about a gillectomy but...I don't know, it's been in there for so long I would feel guilty for killing it.

[cool][#0000ff]Nice report. You got a couple of good fishing buddies there. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]That carp was a biggun. No apologies ever needed about enjoying a slugfest with a "golden bonefish". We got a lot of closet carpers here.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]What were the water temps and how deep were you finding the "other" species?[/#0000ff]

Carp can put up a pretty good battle, I'm not ashamed to catch them...however I have no concscience, so it woulda been a gillectomy-o-rama!

[font "Lucida Console"][#ff4040]Holy Carp!!! Looks like that would have made a ton of catfish bait. Don't worry, my biggest freshwater fish is a carp also.[shocked][/#ff4040][/font]

Sweeeeeetttt!!!!!!!!! I don't care what anyone sez, nothing like going toe to head with a big ole carp! Nice report and great pics! The only way to beat the catch is to do it from a float. The ride is sooo cool. Glad ya let the old gal go maybe some one else can catch her and have some fun too!
What were the water temps and how deep was ya fishing? Planning a trip there myself, maybe tomorrow if the weather holds up.

I was casting around for rainbows at Flaming Gorge last week and had a carp grab my lure. On 6# test and a light drag setting that was an awesome fight! It broke off right at the net but my brother and I estimate it at around 10-15 lbs. That carp of yours must have given you quite a fight!
Mine took a Jakes lure. First time I've ever hooked a carp on a lure. I've caught plenty on worms and dough baits, but never a lure. Is this pretty common?

The only place I've caught carp on lures is Starvation and not very often. Water temp 60-62*.
