How to set your drag?
#1
I know you guys set them between 26%-33%.With momoi diamond out wouldn't you be able to set it as high as 40% if not more since the breaking strength is so high. All lines break above their ratings so why do you set the drag higher?I don't get it.I'd like to put the hurt on the fish by setting the drag higher but don't know if it's safe(for my line).

Hara

I usually set about 35% and on some line set ups it's possible to go up to 40% depending on the knots your using and brand or type of line as well.

The other approach is to start off at 30% and then increase that to 40% as the fish tires. This has to be judged by feel and is more than possible once the steam has been taken out of the fish and/or you are able to raise it's head, and keep it up, when either vertical jigging or fishing on the slide IMO.

Only one way for you to find out and that's give it a go. I look forward to hearing about your results.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve B
Moderator Lures/Baits Forum
http://www.demonjigs.com

Keep in mind that as the fish takes line the drag increases because of the line in the water. Too many anglers lose many fish because the drags are set to high. I keep my drag on the low side and adjust higher deoending on the fish and how the fight is going.
