Anniversary fishing trip
#1
[cool][black][blue]Today was our wedding anniversary. TubeBabe wanted to go fishing at Willard. Whatta girl! 28 years of awful wedded bliss.

Good buddy road agreed to come along, for immoral support and to serve as O-fish-al ceremony photographer. Couldn't be that he wanted to play with the fishies too.

We hit the water at the south marina by 6:30. Water temp was a lovely 72. Felt much better to my waderless lower portions than the 58 at Starvation a couple of days ago. Warmed up to 77 by the time we got out around 2. Clear, green and warm. Time for wiper boils...but we didn't see any today.

The cats were playful and we all added a few to our baskets early. TubeBabe scored the first wiper...a 20 incher. They probably heard her whooping clear up at the north marina. I virtually guaranteed her a wiper for our anniversary, so now I was off the hook. In between a bajillion cookie cutter kitties I caught a 14" wiper and lost a couple more. Fun Fun.

Road and I smacked the kitties pretty good on small plastics today. No way to know just how many we each got, but it was super plenty. We also got them on both crawlers and minnows...plain or used as sweetener on jigs.

Road took big fish honors with a wiper that was a half inch longer and a tenth of a pound heavier than TubeBabe's. Kind of a bittersweet victory though. That nasty fish trashed his ultralight rod. They can do that. He also scored another wiper that was about the twin to the 14 incher I got.

The weather was superb. Never more than a light ripple on the water and mostly glass all day. Lovely. I had a special treat. I looked down and noticed that a dragonfly nymph had crawled up on my tube and an adult dragonfly emerged from the case. I'm attaching a couple of pics of the free show. Always cool.

Didn't see many boats, but did see Fish1on out in his toon. Did not even know who it was until after he had talked to Marty and we got back in. We rode down to chat after filleting a bunch of fish at the station. Evidently he got beat up by the kitties too, and 1 small walleye...no wipers.

We found fish in all depths today...from 3' to 11'. Best action seemed to be about 8-9 feet. Threw lots of hardbaits and plastics, but there was never a pattern or an active bite by anything except the cats.

When we got back to the ramp, TubeBabe and I posed for our "double basket ceremony" pics, to celebrate our anniversary. Here's a pic of what we looked like 28 years ago. I don't remember, but I don't think we went fishing after the wedding ceremony.

Congratulations TubeMom and TubeDad. I'm glad to see that you guys have lasted so long as fishing partners.

After 22 years with mine, I'm still trying to get her to partner up for fishing. It may take a few more years after that just to get here in the tube.[cool]

"2007 Double Basket Ceremony" picture is priceless -- needs to go in a frame in the living room...Truly a happy couple, congrats 100 times over.

Nice to see Road enjoying retirement as your chaperon, his Smile holding his take looked like a frame worthy pose also that only someone who does not have to work 40 hrs + a week anymore could achieve.

Better get to bed -- have a 5:30 AM trip with Fishheiser planned in the morning to chase green carp with long rubber worms and buzzy spinny things for a couple hours before the honey do list's start.[black][black] [/black][/black]

P.S. -- TD & TB: I could not help noticing in your wedding photo that you had fishing on your minds, it looks like you are getting ready to fillet the cake [Smile]

[Smile]Thank you, all, for your kindly comments on "our special day"! I suppose there are many who may question our mode of celebration, but it was fitting and we had a great time! We have the necessary ingredients, now, to get together with family to celebrate with a fish fry!

I sure didn't question anything. The type of ceremony looked totally normal in my book[cool]

I thought that was kind of cute that you had Road as the "Tube of Honor". He does some good pics. Maybe I can get him out to Cali for my next anniversary.[Wink]

Sorry for the delay here, I had the Mrs all to myself last night. Having a house with no one in it is a real treat these days. So I spent some time with her and we did nothing together .... it was real nice.

Yeppers you two were in a hurray to get the festivities going this morning. Can't add much to that report except a few addtional pics. Great day to be out fishing, good company, and playful fish. A near perfect day, it doesn't get much better than that!

Picked up a kitty that had a serious bite mark on it's side. Wonder what could have did that.

At the cleaning station one of the kittye caughed up it's earlier dinner. I had to share this with ya all. Now if ya get quizy easy don't open the attachment. LOL

Boy do I hear that tn2. 21 years for me and she wont even get near the water. But she at least agrees to let me have fun. Thats half the battle. Maybe when she retires she'll join me. One can always hope. But she does love to eat the catch of the day!!

Only smi-retired Dusty one can wish for full retirement. But you are right about being able to get more time on the water. Man it beats the heck out of working. I sure don't envy the 40+ hours your working any more. I like the 20 something I'm doing much better. Hang in there you'll be here sooner than ya think.

Maybe if ya can invite for a salt float to go with it. I'm so jealous about you getting to folat the salt and me just floating the little ponds. Ofcourse my luck would be I choose the wrong tides and end up in Japan or something!

The tides are all the fun in the game of tubing the salt. It is always best to check the tide the day before. That gives you a chance to see how long your ride will be and almost effortless.

If you choose the wrong tide, you can:

A. Tire yourself out and give up on fishing all together.

B. Tire yourself out and give the Coast Guard something to do.

C. Not even get out all together because the waves could be crashing harder than you desire to launch in.

D. Get that trip to Tahiti that you have always been dreaming about.

Since I'm too far from the ocean but I'm just a half hour from Lake Michigan....I don't see any reports of anyone tubing in that big tub. I wonder if I could?

[cool][#0000ff]Ever hear the expression "Life is hard by the yard, but a cinch by the inch"? The same is true of tubing a big lake. Most lakes have inlets, arms, bays and coves that are nothing more than small lakes in and of themselves. Watch the fishing reports for where the action is best. It will often be in one of these smaller sections of the main lake. And, there are usually roads and access. Even better, many coves and bays are buoyed off to boat traffic or are at least "wakeless speed"...ideal for tubers. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Some of my favorite fishing spots are small areas of big lakes.[/#0000ff]

Think its possible to pack enough water for the trip to Tahiti? I mean I would have the fishing gear .. so I should be able to eat and I like sushi.
Ahh life is good . [Smile]
