So Cal Salty Flotillia! fishing report
#1
I met up with ATFISHING at Cherry Beach in Long Beach Cali.

We were set up and launched by 6:15am ready to take whatever came our way. The water was a nice 70 degrees and the wind was getting ready to challenge us on our Salty Adventure.

Withing 15 minutes or so, I was able to hook into the first Halibut of the day. Then another.

ATFISHING was busy with his arsenals and finally got his first Halibut of the day.

Small Barracuda were also in the neighborhood and invited themselves to the party as well.

We did end up catching a Spotfin Croaker and a Pacific Mackeral too. A few small Stingrays (ouch one got me), a sea slug and several plastic bags also made it in the neighborhood.

As the sea got rougher, ATFISHING took a shoreside approach as seasickness was engulfing his craft.

I stuck it out a little longer until I could feel the tide starting to pull and then made my way into shore to join him in the shoreside surf fishing action.

The surf yielded us a couple more baby sting rays and I think it was a Thresher Shark that spooled me on my 12lb outfit.

Pics and video of the spooling to follow.

We left around 10:30 and did our "Meal of Peace" ceremony at Jack in the Box.

Total fish count:
6 Halibut
9 Barracuda
1 Mackerel
1 Croaker
2 Starfish
4 Stingrays
1 Sea Slug
20 or so Plastic bags[cool]

Because this is a G rated site, I didn't mention the other "C Fish" that you caught. ha ha

I had a good time. I hope we can get a better turn out on the next round and maybe catch some bigger fish.[cool]

That was a nice way of putting it. I didn't have the heart to tell him that you catch what you catch and don't get to keep anything that is under legal size. hmmmm. We put Chico.[cool]

my bad ... I thought you had reported several catches of legal size.. my main question the fish fry would of been how the salsa was.. especially if it was home made..

These were baby stink rays. One of them got me on the finger. It went numb for close to 7 hours. It was quite painful only for the first 5.

These were the California Brown Stingray.

At first I thought it was a baby Thornback with under developed back features. The it let me know that I was looking in the wrong spot.[pirate]

Nice report TN2 sure wish I could have been there. Cudas bring back lots of childhood memories with my dad. How big and is there a sz limit on cudas now?

Too bad about the plastic bags. Shame folks cant just take that stuff home with them.

The Cudas were only in the 13-15inch range. Minimum size is 28 inches. They are still fun on 12lb test.[cool]

I bet they are. I remember them being a healthy fighter. But then I was only 12 and the little sun fish at Folsom lake were healthy fighters to me back then.
