Went out early morning (5:30am) (probably not a good idea because of full moon). Lanched from Hemenway. Hit up a rocky cove w/ lots of drop off's just east of Hemenway and hooked up with a small largemouth. About 1, 1 1/2 lb's or so. Fished that for awhile (1 other boat caught a small striper while drifting). Shot over to Las Vegas Wash. TONS of boats in the area but we didnt see anyone catching anything. We were hoping to hit an early morning boil but nothing around. Off the lake by about 9:00am.

BTW, caught the largemouth off of a shad colored Storm Wild-Eye swimbait.

I had about the same luck. I was fishing the wash to 33rd hole, and north Saddle and only caught a few cats. Other than that the most excitement we had was a small boat with a electric troling motor came right next to us near 33rd hole and caught all of our lines in his motor. The a-hole didn't even say sorry; (maybe because he didn't speak english). I hope his battery died far from where he parked[mad] I think i'll stick with the overton arm til' reports say otherwise.

HAHAHAH.. Was that the little old ass blue boat you are talking about?

We saw a boat that looked like it was ready to sink beached right at the wash. Was old blue w/ a trolling motor. They looked like they had no idea what they were doing!

You guys are hilarious....but I'm really sorry to hear that happened to you and Doz. It really upsets me when there are inconsiderate people on the lake...especially at Mead. There's absolutely no reason why a boat needs to get that close to you. Well, hope you have better luck next time.

Best regards,

Paul

If you goto the lower basin, youll understand. Id say more than 1/2 of the boaters out there are inconsiderate to everyone (whether it be fisherman, anchored boats, skiiers, whatever). One thing that drives me nuts is when a boat has all the open water in the world but he makes it a point to come romping past you within 30-50 ft (and its usually some big ass boat with some huge wake).

You just gotta deal with it unfortunately Sad

I'm amazed to hear this because my experiences at Mead have always been very good. I recommend you try to AZ side of Mead. Specifically, Temple Bar. I have fished and taken houseboats out of every part of Lake Mead....and hands down Temple Bar is the best. Echo Bay comes in dead last. Frankly, I'm not a big fan of Overton Arm either. My experience in Boulder Basin was fine but like you said it does get crowded. This is obviously because it's the closest part of the lake for those coming from Henderson or L.V.

I'm telling you drive the extra 50 miles. It'll be worth it. First, there are very few boats on the lake there, and 80-90% of them are fishermen. You hardly see any jetskis or water skiiers. The fishermen there are pretty courteous, too. There have been times where there are about 10 boats in a deep but narrow cove, and fishermen have always been careful so as to not create wake for the others.

The people working at Temple Bar are extremely friendly, too. I've made a lot of friends there, and I could hardly say that about other areas I have rented houseboats and fishing boats. Anyway, sorry again to hear about your experiences. Hope conditions out there get better soon.

Best regards,

Paul

I guess I didn't mind Echo too much but Seven Crown's houseboats are downright awful. We were adrift in the middle of the night with no motor power during Memorial Day Weekend a few years back. The winds were absolutely horrific that night. I believe we had 60 + mph winds. We saw several capsized boats the following day. I believe we were at Fire Island at the time.

Anyway, you should try out Temple Bar. I think you would really enjoy the fishing there.

Best regards,

Paul
