Catfishing with my daughter
#1
[black]Was told I should post this up here for all the tubers to see... basically initiation of my 8 year old daughter into the world of tubing and fishing for big cats.[/black]

[black]My daughter had asked me the last time she was up to visit to take her catfishing. Well, we didn't make it that weekend so I was determined to take her for a little bit this weekend. I had the day off from work at the Depot and Wendy was feeling sick to her stomach so while she laid down, we headed out. I had to take Kasey home to Provo anyway so I don't want anyone thinking I bailed on Wendy just to get out and fish. Unfortunately, her not feeling well kept me from meeting up with Tumblingwings.... sorry about that man. But she did say ok on a BBQ this weekend somewhere. My grill works or I can come to your place. Anyway, back to the fishing.... We got to the lake at around six and got floating after about fifteen minutes. I brought a spare tube for her and cinched her into it. I also lashed her tube to mine with the fish basket between us.... safety was a concern with this being her first time in a tube. I'm sure from the pictures, folks will find ways to point out things I could have done better.... :? I know, I know... but we had a good time. We got out and cast a couple places, without getting much more than a pop and drop, as a fishing mentor of mine would say. Finally I kicked us over towards a clump of cattails but before reaching them cast into a cut in the tules. WHAM!!! As soon as the chunk of carp hit the water, it was fish on. I made sure the fish was hooked and then handed off the rod.... this was all Kasey. She loved every second of it... reeling and hollering when it took off on her.... It was HILARIOUS!!! She really got excited when she got it up to the surface and the look on her face was priceless. Its the biggest fish by far that she's ever caught. It was just a nice cool, overcast, calm day that was perfect for her first time out. We finally got the fish up and I netted it for her, completing the fight. I snapped a few pictures, both of her and the fish and then just her being cute in her tube. She's such an awesome fishing partner and I'm sure days like that are ones she and I will remember for the rest of our life. I told her, "If you get cold, you let me know and we'll leave." Well, finally, the water started to chill so I kicked us back over to the truck and we unloaded, snapped some more pics and then I ran her home. All in all, a great couple hours spent with my little fishing buddy and just more insurance that she will want to go again. I actually had her tell me that she liked tubing more than anything else we've done and she just can't wait to go again. SCORE!!! 8) Here's the pictures.

Nice. Now that the water is warming up, my 2 oldest girls want to go tubing....(wanted to wait and see if they liked it before investing in kiddie waders) -- will have to show them these pictures.

Wow that is awesome. My daughter has also been after me to take her tubing, she's also 8yrs old. I was also thinking about a donut tube for her and just attaching it to my tube via a rope. Thanks for confirming that it's possible. Now I just have to convince the wife [crazy]

you betchya sis.. Id be to a scared to do otherwise.. plus you would not have any entertainment to talk about that night if you were to miss any of the multitude of bumbling and stumbling things I know I would do.. [sly].. and the funny part would be is that it would all be true.. no need to tell a fish story when the truth is funnier.. [Smile]
