Fished L. P. this morning. The kokanee are putting on weight! We caught two 18"ers and several in the 14-16" range. All came from a depth of 28', and from the same spot. I hooked something that I fought for at least 5 minutes and never gained line on. The fish took several impressive runs. When he broke off, I still hadn't gotten a look at him. I will be wondering about that fish for the next few days. Wow, I've never seen so many boats on a Friday. There must have been 20 boats fishing in the area around the point. Mike

We'll have to try Little Bayhorse. Is it a lake you can fish off the bank, or did you take your boat? My wife and I used to teach specialized courses out of Stanley on both the history and the biology of the area. We spent lots of time in Custer, of course, but have not been to the ghost town of Bayhorse. Have you ever fished for macinaw in Stanley Lake? It has some nice-sized macs in it. Thanks for the info--I love exploring a new area--and also good luck to you at L.P. this week. Mike

Little Bayhorse is a small alpine lake and you can fish from the shore. Need 4x4 for access but it's not that bad. Leave the boat at home. Rough road and steep just before you get to the lake. From the parking area, head around the point to the right about 100 yards. Weedy otherwise near the little pier. Lady in a float tube our last visit and she was nailing them on brown wooly bugger type flies. We used typical mepps and panther martins and we hammered them as well. Beautiful spot in a punchbowl. The other (and larger) Bayhorse Lake I've not fished yet. Maybe as good or better with easier access?
I've fished Stanley Lake but only from the shore one fall. Caught a couple of planters. I've heard of the Macks but haven't tried them.
I'll post LP results after my next trip. I'd like to get a few bigger ones; your latest catch is encouraging. Maybe they've added size and weight in the last month? Got to be a lot of food for them. I'm going to fish well into the fall so we'll see...

Thanks for the info. The road sounds like it might be too much for my Dodge Caravan! Good luck at L.P. We found the big ones close to the point across from the ramp. Mike
