1 dead, 3 injured in boat accident

_ What began as a fun day on the Connecticut River ended in tragedy in Old Saybrook. News Channel 8 obtained home video that showed the boat spinning out of control after the driver was thrown overboard. The powerboat hit a sailboat with 4-people on board, including a 53-year old woman who died. </P> <P>Boaters say the sailboat cannot maneuver quickly so it did not have much of a chance to avoid this tragic crash. </P> <P>"There's very little they can do if something's coming at them that's why we're supposed to give way the motor boats," said boater Clyde Tyler. </P> <P>Drivers are supposed to wear a safety lanyard attached to the boat's ignition in case something goes wrong. </P> <P>"It's upsetting because he should have had the lanyard on. That would have never happened. No one would have ever gotten hurt and his boat would have stopped dead in the water," said boat Vickie Silvia. </P> <P>After the accident, 44-year old Gregory Siege of Madison was arrested for operating under the influence. The DEP is now examining both boats and will determine if other charges will follow. </P> <P>Sea Tow, a boat towing company, rescued the victims from the water and were able to stop the spinning boat by thrusting a tow line in its propeller. </P> <P>Siege will be in court on July 19th. <BR></P></DIV></FONT>
