Algae bloom

We have this bloom every summer in this reservior here in Idaho. I was just wondering if anyone knows how deep it may run. I can't believe it would go all the way to the bottom of a deep res. and the fish would survive. Is ther a way to check how deep it may go?

Can't say I've run across that much here in the NE. I would think it wouldn't be more than a foot, but you can always drop in an Aqua View and check it out.

Don't have one of those yet, haven't seen one in opperation either but I am sure they are cool[] A few guys have them for ice fishing here in Idaho.

Hey Michael.. we have algae blooms of all sorts here in the majority of Wisconsin waters. From what I've gathered over the years the depth of the algae itself can vary throughout the water column from a bunch of different factors but the two big ones are sunlight and nutrient levels (phosphorus & nitrogen) of the water. The stuff can actully adjust its depth to move where levels of both are relatively good.. and that could vary from waves, storms, boat traffic, run-off, etc., ..

On a side note, there have been times where I've seen some stiff suspended water on the sonar above the thermocline of a few lakes when a heavy bloom had occured... If you ever see this its a good place to have your baits running.
