Tuesday Gorilla Floatilla
#1
[cool][#0000ff]Thunderstorms are a potential for the afternoon on Tuesday, but it looks like ideal conditions for a good part of the day. Both TubeBabe and I will be there by about 5:30...planning to launch about sixish. Just do not get in front of TubeBabe when she is ready to launch or you will get stomped and tromped. I almost ALWAYS let her launch first...self preservation.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The catfish have been slow lately. Hopefully we can find a few. Best results seem to be fishing in about 3-4 feet of water and using a bobber to keep the bait just above bottom. The main problem is keeping the pesky white bass from driving you wacko. For those who just want a lot of action, bring some small jigs and spinners and some crawlers to tip them with, and you can stay busy on the whities all day. You can catch them in water as shallow as 2 feet...out to 8 feet...if you can find that deep of water.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Many of us will be launching from the end of the south dike. If a lot of us show up, it could get crowded. You can also launch from the mud flat in front of the parking area to the east of the restroom facilities. It is a solid volcanic mud, so most vehicles can drive on it without fear of bogging down. The only problem is that the water remains shallow for a long ways out, so you have to slog and drag your tube a ways before it is deep enough to sit down and use your fins. But, there is some good fishing in that shallow area, right out in front of the reeds to the east.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]For bait, bring crawlers, minnows and/or carp meat. You can also bring white bass meat, if you have it. If not, it usually does not take long to score a couple of small whities to cut up into bait. Fresh white bass strips are sometimes the best bait for both catfish and walleyes. Again, the only problem is keeping other white bass from munching it. White bass strips on jigs and spinners is a good offering if you wanna catch more whities.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The walleyes have started moving into the area, so if you want to target them, bring an assortment of 2" - 4" plastics, in assorted colors. Fish them anywhere from 3' to 6' deep. Make long casts, let them settle to the bottom and then reel slowly just off the bottom.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Don't forget: Tackle, bait, nets, fish baskets, sunscreen, skeeter spray, sunglasses, wiping rags, knife and pliers...etc. If you have a walkie talkie, bring it and set it on channel 8. That seems to be the best channel at Lincoln Beach. Some of the others get a lot of local "crosstalk". You are also on your own for food and drinks. No Maverick stores at Lincoln Beach.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Looking forward to a fun morning.[/#0000ff]

[cool][#0000ff]Might be a chance to finally fish with TubeBabe. She is going too. But, if you decide to go, maybe you can meet up with someone in Salt Lake and rideshare to Lincoln Beach. If not, we can meet up and caravan.[/#0000ff]

I re-froze the bait I had left over from Saturday, and I have the white bass meat I caught Saturday. What do you think --- am I okay?

[cool][#0000ff]You should be okay. Crawlers and white bass meat will catch more walleyes and whities. The cats have been tougher to find, but they will hit the refrozen stuff just fine. I sometimes do better with "recycled" minnows and meat than with fresh.[/#0000ff]

Just a dedicated pic will do nicely : ) If I can't catch 'em, the next best thing is seeing a snapshot.

On your way down to UL, check out the Northeastern Sky. The last of the Perseid Meteor Shower should still be on display up to the early hours Tue. morning. Once in a while you'll see a good one that leaves a smoke trail across the sky that remains visible for 30 seconds.

[cool][#0000ff]The meteors are not worth looking for in a light polluted environment like the Wasatch Front. Now, down in Arizona, out in the desert, sittin' back in a comfy lawn chair. That was the place to see IT ALL. Also a good place for rattlesnakes, scorpions, etc. [/#0000ff]

Sorry Tubebabe, one of these years you can show me how it's done. [Tongue]

I was down at PaliSade Reservoir for a family reunion last weekend and we saw a few of them meteors passing by. Very cool! It's like an entirely different sky down there away from all the lights and muck.

Have fun tomorrow all! I'm sure one of you will land the legendary Great White Bass of Utah Lake.
