Where to go - PACKING IN
#1
I have always backpacked in Wyoming for some easy fishing trips....wanna do one in Utah this coming weekend...looking for a 1-5mile hike in and some nice area to stay (camp) in - and would like some great fishing to go with it. Would prefer a trailhead within 2hrs of SLC but willing to drive a little further if needed. Please let me know of any places you would recommend. No particular fish I am after - just like to go for some quantity...thank you.

Uinta's crystal lake trailhead, back behind Kamas About an 1.5 hr drive. Beautiful area and tons of different lakes to hike into anywhere from 1-8+ miles trips (one way).

I would also recommend driving up on the mirror lake highway and taking any number of hikes from the many trail heads along that road. You could also drive up to the trail head by Smith and Morehouse, I think one of the lakes up that trailhead is called Round lake. Kentofnsl and Tincanfish have hiked it I believe and can give you more info. Either way it would be good to get a map of the area, lots of lakes up in the mirror lake area. Good luck. WH2

I've only fished Long and Island lakes and not much difference that I had noticed between those two. I would just head to the Trial Campground area and park near Crystal Lake. From there, head up the trailhead and there are signs at each fork with the lake names and distances. I would say just wing it and hope that you got good fishing Karma![Wink]

I don't know if you have fished for the artic grayling before but that is another reason for going to Round lake, there are a few lakes in that area, plus it is a little closer than the other lakes along the Mirror lake highway. WH2
