Well as I expected the pontoon boat works really well in moving water. I floated the same "smallie" river that i went down in my kayak last month. This time I took the new toon and my fins. I was really pleased with it and caught some nice bass to boot. Check my Fish On The Fly blog for more details. http://smallmouths.blogspot.com/

Hey Pat, I know you had a brief fling with a Cougar and I know how you feel about the tube as I felt strongly the same way but if you ever move to an area with a lot of river fishing opportunities you might have to revist the pontoon. I love my kayak but the Fish Cat pontoon gave me the same hands free fishing that I get while tubing. Now I know some guys use drag chains while taking various craft down river but with our experience with fins from years of tubing this would be totally unnecessary. I was really pleased with what I could do with fins in the moving water situation. I have a stripping apron which keeps me inside the confines of the pontoons when I jump off the seat to stand and fish an area thoroughly. (see pic of my friend with his Orvis/WaterSkeeter pontoon) Standing on the river bed in fins is a little clunky and perhaps might be more comfortable in those shortie Outcast type fins that you strap to your boot. However I like a full sized fin for what it can do to contol and propel the craft. I knew the pontoon boats real niche was in moving water but I didn't realize it would be as effcient as it is. Anybody who does not wear fins on their pontoon is "missing the boat" (pun intended)

[cool][#0000ff]I have made my last move. I do not plan to move out of Utah and we are not "blessed" with many floatable rivers. The main float stream is the Green River, below Flaming Gorge Dam. It is a blue ribbon trout fishery but a long drive for someone who prefers still water and non-trout fishing.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I appreciate your recommendations. Glad the toon worked well for your float trip and I am sure your input will be valuable to other BFTers who might be considering a toon.[/#0000ff]
