A LATE SUMMER YOUTH FISHING EVENT
#1
LOS ANGELES - Children ages 5-15 are invited to participate in a free youth fishing event at Lincoln Park Lake, a City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks facility located at 3501 Valley Blvd., near downtown, on Saturday, September 8, 2007.

This activity is designed to give boys and girls who live in urban areas an opportunity to enjoy a fishing experience in or close to their own neighborhood, with poles, reels, tackle, bait, and assistance provided. Event day onsite registration will begin at 7:00 a.m.; the fishing session will go from 8:00 a.m. to noon, followed by a congratulatory ceremony and drawing.

Participants will also be able to learn more about oceanography by visiting a mobile display of marine life, provided by the Science, Education, Adventure (S.E.A.) Laboratory in Redondo Beach. Anglers age 16 or older can fish at the end of the event, but they must have a California State Fishing License.

The Department of Recreation and Parks is co-sponsoring the derby with the Daniel Hernandez Youth Foundation, the California Department of Fish and Game, Councilmember Ed P. Reyes (1st District, in which Lincoln Park is located), and the Blue Cross of California Foundation, with the Los Angeles Police Department, the Los Angeles City Fire Department, and other partners expected to participate.

For more information about or to register for the event in advance, call Lincoln Park at (213) 847-1726.
