I"m writing from Utah where I live, but I may be going to Fairbanks on a business trip next March. I am wondering if there is any chance for any kind of fishing action at that time. Here in Utah ice fishing will just be shutting down, but I don't know much about Alaska. Does anyone fish in the Fairbanks area at that time of year?

I lived in North Pole, just outside of Fairbanks near Eielson AFB. There are many small lakes to ice fish in that area but it will be quite a drill (2+ feet) I have had times where I needed extensions on the auger to get thru. My favorite winter fishing was running set lines for burbout in the rivers.

Thanks for the information. I had given up hope of getting any sort of reply to my query. In fact, I didn't think any Alaskan BFTers were still alive.

Definitely one of the slower boards. I am actually in Utah but I watch this board and a couple others.

I knew all those guys up north must be frozen.
Thanks for responding anyway. I really appreciate our Utah BFT board. There's a lot of good discussion and information.

The coldest I ever had was 53 degrees below. My cutoff for snowmachining and fishing was 30 below. Pretty bad when you have to plug in your truck with block heaters, battery heater, and oil pan heater just to keep it from freezing up.
I would move back there in a second if I could convince the wife and kid. Great people, great memories, and beautiful country.
