How marlin strike?
#1
In this months issue of Saltwater Sportsman there is an article "How marlin really strike lures". I was wondering how many of you plan on changing the way you troll for marlin based on this article. Some of the key changes (for me anyway) would be:

Run you lures 2 per wake instead of the standard stagger?

Make your lures right/left only, pointing hook toward center?

Run short flat lines behind wake?

Any other comments?

Capt. Jeff
I did not see the article but here's my 2 cents worth.
Run the flat lines on the same wave, no to very little stagger
Lures are mostly chuggers and do not pin them so ain't no left or right.
Transom lines are flat line clipped to run in clear water alleys between center prop wash and outer hull wash. don't know if the fish see them better but i certainly can.
Finally if we see the fish and it is at all possible we try and approach the fish with them on the starboard side of the boat. For some reason we have more strikes that way.
BTW the boat is twin gas Tiara 2700 Open Express-caught 2 sails and 2 striped marlin last weekend using these techniques.

Bart Waldo
Vista Communications
