Sunday, 09/16/07- Hit the water early. It is really dark at 5:00 am. The sunrise found me in the channel near Sand Island jigging a spinnow. Nothing. Moved up to Gov't Wash. Nothing. No surface activity, continued to jig. Nothing. Enough of this! Headed to what is left of Las Vegas Wash and began tossing a net. After about a million throws I had eight nice shad in the livewell. Boy what a workout for eight shad! Returned to the Sand Island channel and lowered a shad to about 80 ft. Bingo up came a small striper, you know, the kind you hate to catch on a good day of fishing. Down went another shad....up came another small striper. The third shad...same result. Okay, five shad left, five more small stripers right? Wrong. The window slamed shut. Not another bite in another hour of fishing! Ended up releasing four healthly shad and one with a small hole in it's back before heading back to the marina at 9:30 am. Crazy day on the water.
