Au Sable Report
#1
Hit the footesite dam sunday and what a disapointment !
4 guys on the river and nobody catching nothing !
I gave her a go anyway , heck all that way to turn around and go back without wetting a line ? Not !

Flung a few flys at first , my best producers , and nothing .
Bounced a few bags and still nothing .
Even whipped out with the garden crawlers and still zip.
In the vest were a few leftover waxeys , what the heck , tied on a #20 hook and sent them sailing , second pass a undersized smallie , then another . seemed like a way to spend the afternoon , somethings better than nothing .
A few casts later and something hit bigtime It didn't peel off line like a coho or anything , didn't run deep like some crome would , it headed for the far shallow side ,slow and powerfull . I should have known what it was but on 4 pound test I couldn't be shure .
After a bit I horsed the beast back over , it started coming up out of the deep water getting bigger and bigger , then I saw the color .
One hefty bugle mouth bass , probably around 25 pounds or so , just one huge fish .
No net , no camera and no desire to take it home . The fish had the same idea , he had enough also and we both gave our all in breaking the line and severing our short lived relationship .
So if your thinking about the au sable to avoid the west side , think again , no big fish to be had other than a carp with a new piece of lip jewerly supplied by yours truley.
