First Time catching fish @ Lake Mead!
#1
Hello,

Just this last weekend, the 20th, we finally managed to catch striper on Lake Mead. I've been twice before and got skunked both times drift fishing and trolling cut anchovies. This time we ended up with about 17 small, 14-15" stripers. Trolled some suspending minnow lures behind the boat at about 2-3 MPH up and down the banks of the Wash Area. Estimated we had about 100' line out.

Here is a link to the lures we were using.

Sorry, I didn't have a camera with me so I don't have any photos.

I would really like to hook into something bigger in the 5+ lb. range. Any suggestions on what to try using this time of year?

Also, I just picked up an Eagle Cuda 168 fish finder. It seems to work great but every now and then I'll pass over an area and the screen will be dense FILLED with what looks like fish arches, from surface to bottom. I turn around and go over it again and see the same thing. Anyone have an idea? I am moving at about 5 MPH, medium idle, when this happens.

Thanks all, and great fishing!

Hello Demolitron,

I have noticed the same thing lately. The lake turns over this time of year and the moss lets loose from the bottom of the lake and floats up. Thats is what i have been told. Also from the wash to sand island there is alot of silt in the water and other stuff like seaweed. If anyone knows more please post. because on Boulder Beach my graph seems to read ok.

As far as the bigger fish, they will start to come in as the water cools. The trout plants will start in mid November. That is when the big boys come in to eat. Like 5lbs to 25 lbs. Hope this helps. Right know try jigging spoons at sand island may hook up something large there.
