Rock Cliff Rainbows 11-2-07
#1
[cool][black][size 1][size 2][blue]Tubed Jordanelle with Swedishfish for about 3 hours this morning. Launched about 7:30 at Rock Cliffs. Air temp a brisk 24 degrees in a light chilly east breeze. Water temp 49. There was a bit of mist coming off the water early, and we had ice in the guides until well after the sun hit the water. Cool.

Water levels are WA-A-A-A-A-A-AY-Y-Y-Y down. Could almost drive clear out to the mouth of the channel on the old road at the bottom of the ramp. Well...not quite. See the pics.

A fun morning for spankin' slimers. Lots of 12 - 13 inch hatchery pets tearin' it up. They were jumping and swirling all over that arm of the lake. Started hooking them on my first casts with a small fire tiger spinner. Changed to a gold and orange spinner. They ate that too. Flung a bubble and fly rig, first with a big black "silver hilton"...then a large model of my version of a "California coachman". Didn't matter. They voted for all of it. Musta caught somewhere between 3/4 of a grundle and a half a bajillion.

We didn't have too long to fish, since Ryan had to be back in Salt Lake by about noon (fish hookey from work). So, after releasing a buncha feisty bitty bows I tried bottom bouncing for a perch...or smallie...or bigger trout...or whatever. Never did get over about 25 feet deep and did not see much on sonar. Didn't get any hits on vertical jigged stuff. Went back to bubble and fly and hung an acrobatic 16 inch bow, our largest for the day.

Swedishfish got to play with a fair number of the slimer-ettes too. I think I got him convinced that a bubble and fly rig is a good thing to have this time of year.[/blue][/size]

[Smile] Pat those are great pics. Thanks for sharing! Even those feisty little guys are sure fun to catch and release.

Folks, we sure needs a LOT of snow this winter to avert a crisis. And i'm not just talkin' bout fishin'.

[cool][#0000ff]For recent plants, those bitty bows DID put up a pretty fair scrap. I used an ultralight six foot rod to catch most of them and they really bent that stick. Lots of jumping too. I love that in a fish.[/#0000ff]

That's how they were last weekend at Porcupine...jumping completely out of the water with their tail on fire. Makes for a fun time.

Good ole fly & bubble! We used to do real well at the Gorge this time of year. We would tie on a wooly worm or big double renegade behind a FULL clear bubble. We would fish from shore on the big flats in Sheep Creek Bay or Antelope Flats. Cast out, let it sink for 10 or 15 seconds, then reel in slowly. The bows weren't small either, some 3 to 4 pounders.

Sounds like a lot of fun Pat. Hard to believe the water level is so low. We need some snow this year.
