Sturgeon Pole Making
#1
As some of you know, I am one of the guys that goes after the big'ums up north. I have two fine one piece 7' rods and need to replace my other two boat pole (short stubbies) with two nice rods. I grow up on the Columbia bank fishing for sturgeon and learned the value of a nice 10' plus rod for casting a railroad spike out the required distance.

I have been considering ordering the new 2008 Lamiglass Tarpoon blanks and building a couple of rods that will last me the rest of my days. Please check them out at

Problem is I have never built a rod before and need to learn - so I was thinking about seeing if any other sturgeon fisherman would like to build a rod.

If we had a few guys interested in building a sturgeon rod maybe we could get the tube-guy to show us the right way to build a rod.

Let me know if you have any interest and that's see if we can maybe (after Christmas) put something together.

Of course during the rod making class I can share my sturgeon fishing knowledge & techniques.

I'll attach a pic of a nice one we caught in October this year.

Craig, sounds like fun but I already have all of the sturgeon rods that I need.

I've got to try that one of these years, looks like a lot of fun.

I wouldn't mind trying to make a rod like that if I could make it to the class but working swing shift makes it tough unless we had a weekend class[Wink].
