[cool][#0000ff]Last winter Utah Lake froze all the way across, and to a depth of over 12 inches in many places. That is rare. Usually there are only a few spots (like the harbors) that freeze thick enough for ice fishing. Every year is different, depending upon the weather and the depth of the water.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Recent studies have shown high levels of PCBs in carp and catfish in Utah Lake, but not significant levels in white bass, walleyes or other species. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The fish in the Jordan River are pretty much the same as for Utah Lake. Same water. The only difference is that the farther north in the Salt Lake Valley you get, the greater the potential for pollution. For example, not long ago they found a community near 7200 south that was dumping raw sewage into the Jordan River because they had never properly hooked up to the sewage treatment lines. Not sure I would want to consume anything downstream from that...and you never know where any fish in the Jordan has been hanging out. So, use your own best judgment.[/#0000ff]

Don't forget the fact that any largemouths over 12" must be released...I was fishing at Utah Lake the day before Thanksgiving and saw a guy fishing from shore catch a largemouth. He hollered at me and asked if he could borrow my tape measure. I tossed him one and he said, "Wow, 13 inches! That's a pretty good largemouth here isn't it?" I hated to burst his bubble, but I told him I had just caught one going almost 20" just before he got there and then he said..."Oh, well, it will make for some good dinner anyways." And he started pulling out his stringer. haha. Obviously the man was just ignorant to the laws, so I had to burst his bubble again and tell him that all largemouths over 12" must be immediately released. He suddenly got a really sick look on his face and said..."Oh, really?"...I assured him that it was the truth, but it still took him probably almost 5 minutes before he actually would let it go. He just kept looking at it and dunking it in the water, pulling it back out again, etc...looking at me to check if I wasn't looking so he could try and stash it someplace real quick...but I just sat and watched him. It was pretty funny actually. He finally let it go though. It's amazing how many anglers out there don't look into the specific laws about the bodies of water that they fish...
