Digital Camera?

I am a bit of a Neanderthal regarding digital cameras. Any experienced clickers out there? I am looking for a camera to take fishing pictures (kids with fish in a boat) for web posting, but also for conventional development into 4X6 and larger photos. I think I need a 3 mega pixal or better? OH, Yea, it's gotta be cheap, .

I don't know a lot about digital cameras but here is a warning be carefull with your cheapness I bought a cheap digital camera about 3 months ago and that is exactly what I got a cheap piece of crap that now sits on my desk holding my papers down[]So make sure it isn't too cheap.

Hey there CatmanErv,

I've got an older Kodak 650 zoom but it still cost over 6 bills new. For a first camera, get a good brand, 2mega pixels that can zoom and do close in work. Should cost around $400 now and make sure it is not a return from who knows where or a remanufactured one. I like the ones you can just put in a CD disk and pop it in the only computer and away you go!

Catman: Mine is an Olympus Camadia 4.0 pixels. I can take 125 pix but the batteries run out much before. Your computer software determines pix size. I can produce pix 2x3 feet square although most are adjusted to 4x6 inches. Look at the software before you buy, that's what produces the pics. I am sure that 4 megepixels is overkill now but it was a gift. The one difficulty that I had with an old digital was that you couldn't see the image in full sun. My Olympus has a separate viewfinder that you simply look through a clear glass lens or through the scene produced by the camera. Most all pixel views are blotted out in full sun.

Hey JR, the one that takes the CD is a Mavica, made by Sony. It records directly onto mini CD-R's and mini CD-RW's. Nice option but probably not the best camera out there. I'm in the market for a decent digital camera myself but not finding any in my price range right now. []

If you are looking for something with zoom, get something that has optical zoom as well as digital - it'll give you a nicer picture when enlarged.

A good camera will run you at least $200. The one that I want costs $4000. I've got expensive taste when it comes to electronic toys. Hehe. [crazy][]

The camera I bought was the first thing I ever bought thru the internet and it was great. The model I have is a professional grade camera and kind of a sleeper as it got rave reviews from all the publications (digital camera of the year and all that). Discontinued now because of the low pixel count.

You may be familiar with this one site that lets you comparison shop. I found it using Google.com. You could do a comparison on price features, you name it plus.. it listed the sites that sold according to your demands.

The CD camera I was talking about was first sold about 3 years ago, was a Cannon and it used a regular size CD.

You sound like you know very well what you want so Mr. El Cheapo can't help you much! ha ha

I hate to say it, but Walmart has some good prices on mid range digitals. You can't miss with a Nikon of at least 4.0 Mega pixels. Perfect for home pics and posting. Don't get fewer pixels or you will be unhappy with the product.
