WOODRUFF 12/22
#1
Fished Woodruff last Saturday with great success early. Waxies and crawlers on any kind of small white jig did the trick. We could watch the cutts take our jig about five feet under the ice then they moved deeper as the day went on. It was a little on the nippy side when we got there.....- 20 !! After about 1:30 we didn't even get a bite. The snow on the road to the dam was about 18 inches and we were brave or should I say dumb enough to drive the Jeep down to the ice's edge. It took us a little while to get back out of there and almost had to bust out the chains. Ever seen tires smoke in the snow ? Anyway...if you go you might want to park on top of the dam and walk down. The fished ranged from 10 to 15 inchers. Good luck !

Thanks for the report. Might be a good idea with all this snow for folks to leave Woodruff and B.C. alone until spring![Wink]

Thanks for the update, sounds like the catching was normal for Woodruff. It is sure risky going down to the ice with that much snow in the area, sounds like you were lucky to get out without chains but I'm glad to hear you did. How low do you think the water was? WH2

There was actually a fairly flat area to park where we were about 20-30 feet above the ice. There was one little hump you had to get over that caused our "situation".The water is way down but plenty deep enough. We fished next to the cliffs straight across from where you access the ice and we were in 40 ft of water.

Yea, I know that spot, when we drive down to the water in the summer it can be a tough climb up to that flat spot especially when pulling a boat and trailer[crazy] but we have done it before. It has been a number of years since I have tried it because, IMO, the fish there just aren't worth it but it is a good place to go to get away from people. We use to troll back and forth from the inlet to the dam and even hike up the stream to scout for hunting season. There are lots of beaver dams upstream with some bigger fish in them but I have done just as good below the dam if you can find some of those deep pocket that is hard to get to[Wink]. WH2
