Ice fishing New York
#1
[cool][cool][cool][cool]After months of not fishing we finally got out today for a steller day of fishing. Two of us fished Davitts Lake in Rensselaer County. We had 4" of ice under us so no problem with walking on water. We both limited out on Crappie. I was using a swedish pimple #2 silver with a small glow tied on. My friend was using a Hali style jig he picked up at Dicks sporting goods the chain broke right away so he tied on a straight hook which worked well with the fat heads we were using. It didnt matter if the bait was dead or alive the fish nailed it. It took us 3 hrs. to limit out. The fish were all suspended between 15 and 20 feet in about 25 feet of water. They move and we moved which wasn't far usual about 6 feet. Fish fry tonight Chief

good to hear your back on the water, was beginnng to wonder if something was wrong..

I too got out today for the first time to speak of in almost 10 months,

I was looking for crappie, I got two, I had a hard time getting past the gills to get to the crappie, the gills were hitting just as fast as I could drop in my bannana jig tipped will millers. "miller moth larve"

I ended up with one white crappie and one black crappie, sure was nice to be back on the water again...

I will have crappie for dinner fryday night..

Happy New Year Dave. I was hoping to get back on the water yesterday but getting snow tied me up with work. We are going to get the cold snap you have now tomorrow. Then a warm up next week so it looks like Sat is a must to get back out.
If we let our jigs go all the way to the bottom we would catch bass. I stayed up 5 feet when we were over the school when the school moved is when you had to jig the bait to draw them back for a couple more fishWhen they totally moved they seemed to head for the surface first so I would try jigging at 10 feet under the ice. I managed one fish doing that. We had to keep drilling hold to stay above them but having flashers makes that easier. Talk to you later Chief
