Jordanelle
#1
Does anyone know if Jordanelle (Rock Cliffs) has any safe ice yet? Has anyone fished it through the ice? Also is it as low as it was last year?
I'll probably check it out tomorrow morning and if it doesn't look good i'll trek on up to Strawberry. Thanks in advance for any info.

Passed Jordy today on the way to the berry. I could see no ice. Rock Cliffs might have had some way in the back. However, I doubt it would be very deep beneath the ice. In short, this lake ain't ready yet for ice fishing!

[cool][#0000ff]Jordanelle has had an ice cap out past the buoys at Rock Cliff, but the ice breaks up with strong winds. It did not freeze up good until after mid January last year, although there were some guys fishing it in the shallower water and catching a few rainbows before then.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The lake is MUCH lower this year. Maximum depth out around the buoy line is only about 30 feet...about 25 to 30 feet lower than last year at this time. That is plenty deep for some troutski action, but you are not likely to find any perch much shallower than 45 to 50 feet deep. That will require using a sled or wheeler...or a long hike...from the Rock Cliff parking area.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]If we have a few days of relative calm, with super cold nights, it won't take long for Rock Cliff arm to have fishable ice. It will be a week or two longer for the main lake. Even then there are usually open areas and pressure ridges all through the ice season. Be careful if you get out early...or later too.[/#0000ff]

I stopped by Rock Cliff today on the way home from a Rockport trip. I got out and fished for about 30 minutes. Lots of anglers there today and there is safe (6-8 inch) ice all the way past the wakeless bouys. Anglers enjoyed fair action for planter rainbows today. I didn't have time to scout around for perch, but with Jordanelle as low as it is, most of the currently iced areas may be too shallow to really do well on the perch. Give it maybe another couple weeks for the really deep areas on the Rock cliff arm to freeze.
There was a cap on the Northernmost part of the Hailstone arm as well.
