Weston Information

Does anyone know whether Weston was drained or whether it would be worth a trip ice fishing?

I would suggest Deep Creek over Weston. Seems to be fishing better in the last few years.

Unless I missed something, Weston was not drained this year.

I know Crowthers and Pleasantview were drained and poisoned but both were replanted with rainbows. Johnson and Winder were drained. Foster was also drained to a puddle. I'm not aware of any other reservoirs in the SE region that were drained dry this year.

What was the whole deal with draining some of those lakes? Wasnt Winder drained for good, as in, never to come back or be fishable? Foster drained for dam repair? What was Johnson drained for? I was up there this year and it was very low (couldnt launch a boat), but there was still some water. Just curious I suppose!!!

Johnson, Winder and Foster were all drained for irrigation. Where did you here Winder was drained for good? Was it someone from the Preston area that saw your out of state plates?[] (I hope you understand I'm just joking with you)

I thought I heard from a reliable source Johnson was drained. (Fish and Game, news paper ???) I didn't see it first hand. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Severe draw downs plague at least one of the Preston lakes every few years. They always come back with time. Unfortunately the warm water species have a short growing season in the Preston area lakes. It will take a few years for them to grow decent sized bass and bluegills.

I know you are just messing around. Some people just dont know when people are though (i.e. Utah Board)!!! Anyhow, I could have sworn I either seen in a newspaper article or maybe even on here that they were draining Winder for good and that they let the anglers have a "free for all" while the DWR was only going to put a minor effor into re-locating the fish into other lakes.
Another question, has this been a good season as far as snowpack and precipitation to keep those Preston Area lakes full this summer? Compared to last year at this time of course?

Winder and Foster had a fish salvage order at the end of the 2007 irrigation season. The F&G attempted a relocation effort with some of the fish at Winder but had too short of notice to attempt relocating any of the fish at Foster.
Maybe I misunderstood what "drain Winder for good". I interpreted that as not filling Winder with water again. Winder will fill with water next year. The only question is will Winder have any water left after the end of the irrigation season.
So far we are behind average for snow pack in the mountains surrounding Preston. We do have an el nina weather pattern so there is a good chance we will have average snow pack this year. Currently the Bear River Basin is 75% of average for snow pack and 84% for precipitation. Here's a couple links to my favorite snow pack websites.

The issue with Winder is related to the Twin Lakes Canal Company. They are the ones trying to put the dam in the oneida narrows. They are "considering" not allowing access to their reservoirs for fisherman, boaters, etc. It's a way for them to flex their muscles in an effort to get the dam in.
