Bear Lake conditions/cisco update Thrusday 1/17/08
#1
Bear Lake Report for Thursday, January 17, 2008. There are no cisco running as of today either at Cisco Beach or the Utah State Park marina. The weather last night was calm and cold and ice has formed on approximately 50% of the lake. If the calm/cold weather stays the lake may freeze, however, the Cisco Beach area is wide open water and boats can still be launched. The west side of the lake is almost entirely skimmed over with ice including the area around the rockpile. The ice is NOT safe at this time. We will continue daily monitoring for cisco and will update the Bear Lake office answering machine daily. PLEASE ONLY CALL AFTER 4:00PM 435-946-8501. Once the cisco run begins it should last about 10 days. Fishing reports for other areas of the lake are not possbile since ice is preventing access to the lake.
The only the boat ramp that is available for launching boats at this time is at Cisco Beach. Be careful of moving sheets of ice and ice chunks when boating. The Bear Lake State Park Park will be shutting off the deicers at the marina due to cold weather and ice on the lake. For real-time weather (wind speed, water temp, air temp, lake elevation) see the following link:

http://www.utahlakeview.com Fishing regulation changes for 2008 include recognizing both Utah and Idaho licenses and the respective state's second pole permits on either side of the lake. What this means is that either a Utah or Idaho license holder can fish on either side of the lake. In addition if an angler also has purchased a second pole permit (two pole permit) then you can fish with two poles on either side of the state line too.
For those interested the GPS coordinates for the new rockpiles using WGS84 datum going from south to north are:

41 degrees 58.097 minutes;
111 degrees 23.682 minutes;

41 degrees 58.187 minutes;
111 degrees 23.728 minutes;

41 degrees 58.292 minutes;
111 degrees 23.765 minutes;

41 degrees 58.418 minutes;
111 degrees 23.798 minutes;
