I'm new to float fishing and could use some help. I live in the south and am excited about using a tube this spring. Some places are off limits though "BIG LIZARDS"!
Anyone ever floated in gator country?
You never know when one might pop up. There are places accessible with a tube that arnt accessible by other means. I know some lakes that have never been fished cause of inaccessibility.

It's not the gators although a big one might eat you. It's the snakes. They want a nice place to sun up for awhile. And they are silent. I swear I heard one scream as grabbed him and slung him over the next county. Good bait though...if you get bit you know it's a big one. Those big turtles, they don't call them Snappers for nuthin'. Maybe you should come out here and tube....nuthin' but sunshine and blondes...

[cool][#0000ff]Dirty Harry said "A man should know his limitations". I guess that applies to women too, but they are better of reminding men of theirs.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I have tubed Florida, southern Louisiana and Texas. Gators and slither-goodies (snakes) are a potential problem in many fishy areas of the south. And, in some waters (as Bendo has suggested) there are nasty turtles. Most of my tubing was in colder months, on cold mornings when the reptilians were still snuggled in their down comforters...I hoped.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Actually, many of the waters in Florida are spring fed and remain plenty warm for reptiles to function and be active. Also, when fishing the inland waterways and salt marshes they are warmed by the surrounding Ocean waters. Gators and snakes can remain mostly submerged in the worm Gulf marshes while the air above is too cold for them. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I have only seen a couple of small gators while tubing. But, I have seen several snakes (cottonmouths and rattlers) both on the water and sunning on the bank or in vegetation. As the old song goes "I don' like gators and snakes"...or something like that. During the warmer months of the year, it is not wise to share your fishing trips with something that can do you bodily harm. That's what high beamed boats are for. Any gator over 4 feet long can have a nasty bite. A twelve footer could easily munch you for lunch. And, if you are in an area protected against hunting, the gators have no fear of humans.[/#0000ff]

[cool][#0000ff]There's a whole 'nother set of dangerous critters in Californy...both male and female. Just go well prepared and well "fortified" and it will all be good.[/#0000ff]

In the cooler months my hair goes back to "Dishwater Blonde". The mind refuses to develope itself into anything serious anyways.
The sun always shines here. Today just so happened to be "Liquid Sunshine". My beer is normally 2 to 7 days fresh.
If you can finally get out here, you can see what I am talking about.
A half drunk, dishwater blonde, fishing in the rain. It just doesn't gete any better than that.[cool]
Does that sound Sexy enough for you? I'm not quite ready to change in my breateables for a thong yet.[shocked] The water is still like 48 to 50 degrees![crazy]

... in defense of my more than week old beer.. as I told ya'll... when I have company over I will stock up.. it stays cold in the fridge.. it does not get warmed up again until it drains into someones tummy.. so it never goes flat from the cold the warm the cold thing..
...Im sorry bro.. but the mental image of you in a thong is gonna give me nightmares.. [angelic]

my two cents worth - remember - I am new to the site.
I recommend:
Do not tube with Gators . . .
Do not let tuben2 get a dog and name it Fluffy . . .
Do not tube in Californy with dangerous creatures . . . male or female . . .
Do not drink Mac's skunky week old beer . . .
Do not tube with a guy who traded in his breathables for a thong . . .
You folks are too funny.
