Henry's Lake in Island Park
#1
[font "Arial"][black][size 3]I have a home close to Henry's Lake and have only fished the lake once. I tend to do more fly fishing when I do fish up there but not on Henry's Lake. Any body here fish that area? I know a lot of Utah families have a tradition of being there for the opener on Memorial weekend. Any stories to share. Its a very beautiful area and has some hybrids that are HUGE! 10+ pounds not uncommon. Just curious. Also there is a private lake called Sheridan with those Kamloop trout as well. Saw that when Doug Miller fished it and aired a show about both those lakes about a year and a half ago. I do enjoy fishing Cliff and Wade lakes just on the otherside in Montana. Thanks for any input.[/size][/black][/font]

I know Fly Goddess fishes up there quiet a bit. If memory serves me she took one that was in the 30+ inch range a few years ago. Maybe she will post up here and share.

I actually do rather well fishing that lake. Several large browns to 5lbs. too. Never been skunked yet and its incredibly beautiful. Last fall we were able to watch 2 bald eagles fish as well.

I saw Fly Godess post of that pic on another forum. Huge! She is in a different league than I am when it comes to fly fishing. But that fish was beautiful and is still there waiting to challenge me.

Trust me....I was just kiddin. I go up at least twice a year and stay in the cabins. We stay a week at a time and fish sunup to sundown off my buddies pontoon boat. After we get tired of catchin nice bows and browns there we head down to the Madison with the flyrods to catch those wild rainbows and browns.Love that place !

I go up there a couple times a year and on my last trip brought back a nice hybrid 32in. 13lbs.! out on the south side with a black and yellow panther martin. pulled our little boat about 50ft out into the middle of the lake! i have caught most of my fish out of there with some kind of black and yellow spinner doesn't really matter the brand. the best time to hit it is in in the spring and fall when it isn't to mossy cause it is a joke in the summer trying to fish with all the moss in there.

I'm planning on heading up there for a week in the first of August. Is the moss really that big of a factor? We were thinking of hitting Lake Henry's for a day or two and then going into Yellowstone to fish the rest of the week. Where is Wade and Cliff lake from West Yellowstone? Any info would be great. Thanks in advance.

I went up there ice fishing on the last day, Nov.31. That lake is awesome. It's the first time I've fished it but I will be back to jig it in May! The hybrids are much better fighters than a cutthroat and I want to target some of those toad brookies in there.

I thought it was closed to fishing on the 30th of November. [unimpressed]

The season ends the last day of Nov. It was just barley extended in 2006.

[reply]I thought it was closed to fishing in the winter. [unimpressed][/reply] I fished it the last day before it closed until May. Idaho is thinking on keeping it open longer, with much opposition from flyfishermen. I personally don't think it would harm the fishery much because there is a two fish limit anyway.

To get to Cliff and Wade Lakes from Island Park, take highway 20 North to Highway 87 and take that to Raynold's Pass on the Madison River at Hwy 287. Turn left heading to Ennis, Montana. About a half mile or less you will see a sign that says Cliff and Wade Lake, go left and go across Three Dollar Bridge and follow the signs. About 4-6 Miles I am guessing on dirt roads. Small boats are great with a 10hp limit. I use a 15 horse 4-stroke and never had a problem. Great place to stay? IslandParkCondo.com[Wink]
