Porcupine If So Inclined

[red][size 3]Went up to Porcupine X-Country skiing - sorry - didn't drill any holes, heard it's been slow, so just skiing today but thought I'd update on lake and access conditions. The road is plowed to the bottom of the dam and no problems with just two wheel drive. The last few miles are just one lane wide so might get a little interesting if you met someone going the other direction without 4-scratch but doable. There is a big area cleared at the bottom of the dam to park. Saw a bald eagle fishing in the creek below the dam. Picture of the road heading up the dam. Boat launch area looking across to the south. Looking west at the dam from the rocks above the spring. There was about a foot of open water around the edges but the ice looked good. [/size][/red]

My son fished it two weeks ago with a friend they caught Kokanee but they were all small and were released.[unimpressed]

[red][size 3]Didn't mean to leave your question hanging - been stuck at work all week. I mostly just kick and glide. I was tempted to pick up a set of skate skis or combi's this year but went for an Atomic back country set instead - way fun. It's so much nicer ice fishing with X-country gear, safer on the thin stuff as you spread your weight over 6 feet instead of 12 inches, way faster than walking, TONS funner than slogging around in snow shoes and easier to pull a sled of gear with. That ten foot drift along the shoreline becomes a play thing instead of an obstacle. Down side is you need at least a skiff of snow on the ice and slush is a killer. [/size][/red]
