That's a serious set of raffle prizes Dan and the topic sounds great.

How many anglers do you get coming along on average? Also sounds like there are some hot issues around in terms of fishing management plans if I have read information correctly elsewhere.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve B
Moderator Lures/Baits Forum
http://www.demonjigs.com

Hi Steve,

I usually have about 30 people at the seminars. This will be my first time at this club so I'm not sure what the attendance might be.

You're right, the fishing/political scene now is very interesting to say the least. It's the hot topic amongst my friends.

How's things "Down Under"? What do you fish for this time of year? I was checking out the Barramundi [sp?] pics, awesome.

Dan

Fishing Academy --->http://www.fishingacademy.com

G'day Dan

The seminars sound like a lot of fun.

This time of the year the southern states are into winter fish including your bluefish cousins. A species we call "Taylor". In the sweetwater it's Bass and in the tropics it's full on fishing time with barramundi, queenfish (skinnies), spanish mackerel, and many others.

On our west coast it's Tuna, Marlin and Saifish off a small pearling coastal town called Broome. Sailfish mecca and only discovered the offshore currents about 7 years ago..

Into the western Pacific, it's Wahoo, Striped Marlin, big GT's, Dogtooth Tuna and others. These are the one's we'll be targeting in the small IGFA Tourny that were heading off to shortly.

FYI, had fresh (whole baby) barramundi for dinner last night. About a 5 pounder and just the right size.

BBQ'ed with cut course - lemon grass, butter/pepper sauce and garlic inlaids with finely chopped corianda sprinkled over the top.

Is your mouth watering cos mine is (again). I do a bit of cookiing in my (rare) spare time as well.
'
These fish are the best eating fish around let me tell ya.

Chilled bottle of chardonnay, or a few cold beer's and a man is just about set for anything I reckon.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve B
Moderator Lures/Baits Forum
http://www.demonjigs.com

Hi Steve,

Sounds like you're fishing prospects now are as good as ever. Someday I hope to sample some angling in your part of the world. If I could just win the lottery or something! Seriously, I'm planning to visit sometime during the next couple of years.

That Barramundi dish sounds delicious. You call that stuff Corriander, around here they call it Cilantro. It's used on just about every mexican dish you'll see. I use quite a bit of it as garnish on my "Soupa de Pescado". Quite tasty.

When's your next trip? I leave on a five day August 3rd aboard the Shogun out of San Diego.

Tight lines,

Dan Butler

Fishing Academy --->http://www.fishingacademy.com

G'day Dan

Glad to hear your planning on heading down this way. If you need further information then feel free to let me know.

Sounds like you should join up with is for the trip I mentioned above. And that soup yours, sounds great too.

What's in it Dan. Is it fished based or otherwise?

My next away trip is 20 August and were off to the Western Pacific as mentioned. 10 days overall, 5 IGFA tourny days, with sun, sand and a lot of fun to be had both on and off the water..

First decent holiday for a long time so I am looking forward to it a lot.

After that, it's back to here to make sure that our global clients are being taken care of, meet orders, and get any back log into the air.

Then we have the lead up to Christmas ofcourse (and our stinking hot summers). In amongst that AK anglers start gearing up (believe it or not) for their next halibut/ling season. This year we are establishing an agent up their as well given that our deep water jigs (up to 48 oz's) are hot fish catchers and purpose designed with super bright glow heads, jointed circle hooks etc.

Might get to wet a line during that time around some of the local spots or down the coast as the weather warms. It's subtropical winter time here now.

Into the new year I may get a bit of pro-guiding time in on Barramundi and their tropical mates and not long after that ofcourse it will be Fred Hall Show time which I am working on coming over for, all being well.

Give my regards to Don Baker if you would. Tell him I am still waiting for those jigs he promised to send across.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve B
Moderator Lures/Baits Forum
http://www.demonjigs.com

Hi Steve,

What would you recommend for a first time trip down under? How long a trip would you suggest? I guess there's a million things to work out for an adventure like this. Any guidance would be certainly welcomed.

I'm thinking December 2002 or something around there.

Dan Butler

Fishing Academy --->http://www.fishingacademy.com

G'day Dan

I suppose my Q would be "what is the purpose of the trip?".

If fishing is the main item then 7 days on the water is about the best and I would recommend to trip above in terms of remoteness, yet being able to enter into, and exit out of, Cairns with ease.

Cost wise that is one of the best ways to go as well. Plus it offers a lot of local sight seeing in terms of the Barrier reef and many other great places.

From their you can then head south if wanted by air to Sydney or other locations of choice depending on how much time you have etc.

If it's a mix of fishing and sight seeing then there is a lot of diverse country and places to see given that OZ is the size of the US and yet much less populated.

December is the height of summer and all round, early November would be a better time. There's a few thoughts in terms of ideas.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve B
Moderator Lures/Baits Forum
http://www.demonjigs.com

The purpose? It's fishing of course! I'd like to take the one you're speaking of here, it sounds terrific. Of course I'd like to more and more about it. I'm really looking forward to a trip like this. Thanks much for your help.

Dan

Fishing Academy --->http://www.fishingacademy.com

Not a problem Dan

Knowing that some people have partners, then ofcourse the Q (of purpose) has to be asked.

My suggestion is that you gather some mates and book in for Nov 2002 or earlier depending on time availability.

The full bottle (all details) can be found below. Cost all up? $3500-3600 USD depending on how you plan to get here (e.g direct or via Singapore). The latter is often cheaper.

Check out the "mothership option" when you get to the site below.

http://www.seafaris.com

Barramundi city in the wilderness! Capt.Dan up at the SW Board may also be a starter.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve B
Moderator Lures/Baits Forum
http://www.demonjigs.com
